The giggles of children as they slide down slides, play on a jungle gym and practice tetherball will be heard starting today as a new playground makes its debut as part of upgrades to the Dayton clubhouse of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Mason Valley, made possible thanks to donations from community members and organizations.

The Dayton clubhouse on Riverboat Road opened in the fall of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each day, the clubhouse welcomes around 130 children according to Nick Beaton, Director of Development at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Mason Valley.

On Oct. 3 Richard Shifflet of Dayton left for a walk and has not been seen by family members since.

Lyon County Search and Rescue has searched the area where Richard was last seen and areas where he was reported to frequent.

UPDATE 8:30 a.m.: There will be an official update later this morning. At this time Douglas County Undersheriff Ron Elges said, "All employees are doing well and safe. Our building is open for business. We are just decontaminating the vehicles outside."

Photographic artist Alice Cazenave leads a chemigram workshop October 26

Silver City, Nevada - Alice Cazenave, a London-based photographic artist, will offer a free introductory chemigram workshop for adults on Wednesday October 26 at 6pm at the Silver City Schoolhouse at 385 High Street, Silver City, Nevada 89428.

Students and staff members in the Carson City School District rocked and rolled in earthquake drills today. The events were part of the Great Nevada ShakeOut, an annual statewide earthquake and evacuation drill designed to teach students and educators about how to protect themselves during seismic events.

As part of the Carson Ranger District’s Hazardous Fuels Reduction Program, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will release sheep on Friday, Oct. 21 in the Jacks Valley Wildlife Management Fuels Reduction Project area just south of Jacks Valley Road near Carson City.

Sixty-five competed in the Inaugural Capital City Disc Golf Championships held Oct. 16 at Carson Ridge Disc Golf Park from three states in perfect fall weather.

We are happy to share that as of 8:15 PM Thursday the phone system at Carson Tahoe Health is back up and running, with calls being routed as usual. Carson Tahoe Health experienced a temporary telephone network issue earlier in the day affecting nearly all calls throughout the system and was utilizing other methods of communication to connect with patients for urgent matters.

The Oct. 13 fire at the historic Lee House in Carson City was determined to be accidental, according to a Carson City Fire Department investigator.

Through a spirit led walking tour of Carson City’s historical and haunted West side, this year’s theme explores “Ghost Club” a paranormal investigation and research organization, founded in 1862 and believed to be the oldest such organization in the world.

Two were arrested Wednesday for suspicion of child abuse/neglect after law enforcement found filthy living conditions and pounds of marijuana and marijuana extracting material inside a residence that is occupied by the couple and a 17-month-old child, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

Carson City Board of Supervisors approved a zoning amendment Thursday to allow for a brewery with a tasting room to be a conditional use within tourist commercial zoning.

The amendment was proposed by Shoe Tree Brewing Company, which currently operates under zoning as a “bar” in their location off of Old Hot Springs Road.

Dolan Auto Group announced Wednesday the winners of this year’s Dolan Class Project, giving top honors and $25,000 to Sarah Winnemucca Elementary School in Reno. Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Wednesday morning a fire involving an RV in the 2200 block of Columbia Way.

In downtown Carson City, on the nearly 5 acres that the historic the Virginia and Truckee Railroad engine shops once stood have been purchased by Las Vegas company KB Acquisitions who plans to build “upscale rental residences” upon the property.

The current vacant property is set between the streets of East William, North Plaza, East Washington and North Stewart.

In 2009, the Mayor of Carson City requested an item from the debris of the World Trade Center, and in 2013 Mills Park was designated as the permanent location for the Steel I-beam placement and the city’s memorial to those lost on Sept. 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center attack.

A 28-year-old man was arrested Monday for suspicion of felony child abuse/neglect causing mental harm, domestic battery with strangulation and other offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Mid term elections are coming up quickly, with the first day to begin early voting scheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 22.

While election day itself will take place as usual on Nov. 8, early voting will take place from Oct. 22 until Nov. 4.
