Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Jan. 8-14, 2024. Lane restrictions are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

UPDATE 4:54 p.m.: Crashes continue to occur on the freeway and ramps are being closed intermittently to deal with them. There have been over a dozen crashes reported throughout town since 2 p.m.

UPDATE 2:12 p.m.: The freeway is completely backed up due to the multiple crashes. A number of units are being dispatched for traffic control. Avoid the area of the freeway until further notice.

2:05 p.m.: Multiple crashes are now being reported in the area of Eastlake with at least ten vehicles involved.

Responders are reporting the roads are “extremely slick.”

Happy New Year from the Carson City Park Rangers! Every month, the Park Rangers offer various Ranger-Led programs that include educational opportunities, historical fun, and exciting adventures. The Carson Valley Arts Council’s 2023-2024 Concert Series is resuming with an
evening with Heather “Lil’ Mama” Hardy. Heather will perform at the CVIC Hall,
1602 Esmeralda in Minden, at 7 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2024.

Heather “Lil' Mama” Hardy will light up the stage with incendiary music from
blues and jazz to rock and bluegrass. Heather’s musical journey goes from
New York City to Tucson, Arizona where she and her duo are regular features
with the Tucson Jazz Festival and regional events.

Carson High School’s Senior in the Spotlight this week is Malia (Mia) Alvarado. Mia is an amazing student and has attended CHS for all four years, earning an Academic letter. She has taken Honors level classes and is actively involved in the Early Childhood Education Program.

Carson City Supervisors voted unanimously to appoint applicant Greg Brooks to the Carson City Planning Commission Thursday.

There were three applications submitted in total from Brooks, Dawn Calhoun, and Maxine Nietz.

The Heavenly Gondola is closed indefinitely due to a mechanical issue. Operations were shut down after the gondola maintenance team worked with the lift manufacturer and project engineer to diagnose the problem, which is related to one of the bearings in the high-speed shaft.
