Alzheimer’s disease the topic at Carson City Democratic luncheon
The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Sandy Severance, Community Engagement Manager for the Alzheimer's Association of Northern Nevada. She will provide an overview of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia more generally, and Alzheimer’s Association services available locally. Topics include the impact of Alzheimer’s, myths and facts, risk factors, the 10 warning signs, and how others can join the fight against the disease.
Sandy came to the Alzheimer's Association job with almost 30 years of nonprofit experience. She served a six-year stint as Program Director of the Rural Nevada Counties RSVP, where she developed and implemented a wide variety of programs and services designed to aid elder Nevadans and veterans, including home companionship, lifeline, transportation, respite, and homemaker programs. Before that she served as Executive Director of both NeighborWorks of Pueblo and the Pueblo Human Relations Commission. In between those major bullets on her resume she took on a number of shorter management and consulting jobs in Kenya and Angola.
This event is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, January 8th, and can be attended either in person at Black Bear Diner, inside Max Casino, or online via Zoom. The presentation will begin after all the lunch orders have been taken, around 1:30. Those wishing to be on distribution for luncheon Zoom links should contact Rich Dunn at richdunn@aol.com.
