Carson City's Catmandu introduces their Cat of the Week: Rodey
Meet Rodey. This is a special boy that needs a special home. He had a tough year in 2023, but is hopeful that 2024 will bring him the forever home and family that he wants so badly.
Rodey is a big, beautiful, slightly cross-eyed flame point Siamese who became homeless last June when his lifelong owner died.
He came to Catmandu with his feline housemates, but Rodey had a hard time adjusting to his new reality. Eventually, he came out of hiding and began exploring. Rodey tried to like living at Catmandu, but it was hard.
One of the resident cats hated him on sight and bullied him whenever possible. In addition, Rodey really likes people and needed more attention than he was able to get from staff and volunteers.
As his cat friends from his former home gradually got adopted and went to new homes, Rodey became increasingly unhappy. He developed a condition called pica which gave him the uncontrollable compulsion to eat plastic of any kind. Because of the pica, many areas of Catmandu had to be off-limits to him and his world shrunk.
Finally, he went to a new home where he was best friends with a teenage boy. Unfortunately, less than 3 months later “his boy” developed severe allergies to him; forcing him to return to Catmandu this Saturday, January 6.
At 8 years young, Rodey is a very healthy and loving kitty. He is hoping to find a home where he can be with his people most of the day. He loves to interact with you, and is a lover who craves pets and attention. He is also a talker, and would enjoy someone willing to carry on long conversations with him. While the pica may be an anxiety response that will go away when he is relaxed and comfortable, it might not. His new family must be able and willing to provide a home without access to plastic bags of any sort or boxes with tape if the pica continues.
We think he would be okay with another mellow cat, given a little time for them to get used to each other. He has never been around dogs, but might be okay with a calm, very cat-friendly dog.
Rodey is neutered and up to date on his shots. In the right home, he will be an amazing, loving, fun and loyal friend. If you can provide him the safe and loving home he needs, please contact us via email:momcat@catmanducc.org.

Catmandu is a local cage-free non-profit cat sanctuary and rescue. We have over 80 feline residents. Some are waiting for forever homes. Others are “sanctuary cats” such as elderly, semi feral or medically fragile cats living out their best life at Catmandu. Please visit our website at https://catmanducc.org., like us on Facebook, and help if you can. We always need volunteers and/or donations. We appreciate your helping us continue to care for Carson City’s orphaned, homeless and abandoned kitties. Meow means thank you.
