“Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus” and he and the Grinch will be in Dayton at Our Park, 370 River Rd. on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 5pm – 7pm.

Santa and the Grinch will arrive on a red firetruck courtesy of Central Lyon County Fire Protection District and they will be joined by the Dayton High School cheerleading squad.

On November 19, 2021, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) responded to 15 vehicle burglaries in Minden, Gardnerville, and Topaz area.

This also included three stolen vehicles from this area. The 3 vehicles were recovered locally and returned to their owners.

Eight miles of leaded cable weighing an approximated 150,000 pounds was abandoned at the bottom of Lake Tahoe decades ago by AT&T’s Pacific Bell Telephone Company.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance with locating a runaway juvenile.    

Isaiah was not at school when his mother attempted to pick him up on Friday, November 5, 2021 and was missing until Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 7:30 am when he returned home.  

Isaiah ran away from home again before his mother could call the Sheriff’s Office.  

Isaiah does not have any medical problems and is not considered at risk.

Scammers posing as the Nevada DMV are sending out text messages asking recipients to update their MyDMV profile. A link in the text leads to a web page that resembles the real MyDMV portal.

The annual Santa Train has announced its full steam ahead for its 37th year bringing Christmas joy to the community.

The Carson Chamber Singers, a performing group of the Carson City Symphony Association, will begin rehearsals on Tuesday, November 23, for the Holiday Treat Concert.

The rehearsal, directed by Ricky Hutton, will be 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the LDS Church, 411 N. Saliman Road in Carson City. Four rehearsals will follow, including two with orchestra.

Little Discoveries Early Learning Center of Minden has announced they have acquired Little Feet Daycare of Carson City, NV. The new location will be branded Small Wonders Early Learning Center, the original name of the Singer family company.

A motion to approve a $30,000 sign for the Marv Teixeira Pavilion at first failed during the Thursday Board of Supervisors Meeting, but was eventually adopted.

The sign will be placed at the top of the pavilion with individual, back-lit letters with an expense of up to $30,000 for both the sign and the electrical needed.

Leonard Weinberg, Emeritus Professor of Political Science at the University of Nevada-Reno will speak via Zoom at Monday's Democratic luncheon. Prof. Weinberg has served as a senior fellow at the National Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism in Oklahoma City and at the National Security Studies Center at the University of Haifa in Israel. On November 16, 2021 at 4:45 pm, a Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in a vehicular pursuit in the Gardnerville Ranchos. The suspect fleeing from the deputy was Blake Edward Thacker, a 31-year-old male who was wanted by the State of Oregon for a felony parole violation.

A fatal vehicle crash happened late Tuesday afternoon in the area of Tillman Lane and Patricia Drive that involved a pursuit with a parolee absconder in which a passenger in the suspect's vehicle died in the crash, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
