Fatal crash in Gardnerville: NHP and Carson City Sheriff's Office assist in investigation
A fatal vehicle crash happened late Tuesday afternoon in the area of Tillman Lane and Patricia Drive that involved a pursuit with a parolee absconder in which a passenger in the suspect's vehicle died in the crash, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
According to a news release, a DCSO deputy was driving in the Gardnerville Ranchos area when a speeding vehicle approached the deputy from the rear almost striking the deputy’s marked patrol unit.
The deputy immediately recognized the motor vehicle and driver as a subject who is a parole absconder for assault on a police officer from the State of Oregon. DCSO has been looking for this subject for more than a week, according to the news release.
The subject immediately turned his motor vehicle away from the DCSO deputy. The deputy was able to locate the motor vehicle on several side streets and attempted to stop the driver. The driver of the motor vehicle proceeded to strike several other motor vehicles as he fled from the deputy, according to the release.
The driver eventually turned onto Tillman Lane from Patricia and struck a motor vehicle in that intersection. The suspect’s motor vehicle rolled over several times ejecting the passenger. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, the driver was taken to the hospital by Careflight for his injuries.
The investigation is being conducted by Nevada Highway Patrol and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.
If your motor vehicle was struck during this incident DCSO advises to call the non-emergency Dispatch number at 775-782-5126.
