COVID-19 vaccine available for children in Carson City, Quad Counties and beyond
For some parents, the announcement that the COVID-19 vaccine had been approved for children couldn’t come soon enough. Luckily for them, Pfizer announced earlier this month that approval had finally come through, which means children throughout the country can now receive their vaccination.
At this time, the only approved vaccination for children aged 5-11 is offered by Pfizer, which could make finding the vaccine a challenge for parents.
Parents can contact their child’s primary care provider about the COVID-19 vaccination for pediatrics. However, many of these appointments fill up quickly.
All of Carson City Health and Human Service’s (CCHHS) community COVID-19 vaccine events will be offering the pediatric vaccine.
CCHHS began offering the vaccine for children on Nov. 9, and during only their first two events nearly 130 children were vaccinated against COVID-19.
Within the first week, 4,300 children statewide had received their first dose.
Vaccination rates among adults continue to arise; in Carson City, 71 percent of the population ages 12 and over have already begun vaccinations.
At this time, CCHHS has had no issue with vaccine shortages for the pediatric vaccine, and order more weekly as needed.
Vaccine Clinics in the Quad Counties this month include:
Wednesday, Nov. 17 from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Lyon County Fairgrounds in Yerington.
Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe Events Center in Stateline.
Nov. 18 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Senior Center in Gardnerville, and from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for pediatric vaccinations only.

Parents can also make an appointment at a local pharmacy to schedule their child’s COVID-19 vaccination; please call to make sure that the pharmacy carries the pediatric Pfizer vaccine prior to scheduling the appointment.
A parent or guardian is required to be with a child receiving the vaccine.
