On Saturday morning, dozens of community members braved the clouds and rain to come together in a grass-roots effort to clear the Saliman walking path of torn landscaping cloth and debris.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Paul McGrath, who served eight years as Sheriff of Carson City (1987-1995). The principal topic of his remarks will be the reasons for his implacable opposition to the legal marijuana trade.

McGrath moved to Nevada in 1955 and married his wife Darlene in 1961. They had four children, two boys and two girls, three of whom pursued careers in public safety. With their children and grandchildren, Paul and Darlene celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2021.

Just after 12 p.m. on Friday, a crash was reported at Spooner Junction and Carson Street.

A 51-year-old Carson City man was arrested for felony battery with substantial damage after he broke the ankle of another man during a fight at a N. Carson St. casino.

Just after 8 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a casino in the 500 block of N. Carson St. in reference to two men fighting.

The next Carson City School District School Board meeting will take place next Tuesday March 22 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room within the Carson City Community Center.

A Missouri man was arrested by Nevada State Police highway troopers in Fernley after allegedly carjacking a vehicle with the victim still inside.

In a phone call, Trooper Charles Caster clarified that the kidnapping victim was not missing Fernley woman Naomi Irion, who has yet to be found.

The situation for many local (and national) child care programs is dire. While many folks are continuing to need child care for their children, or those who are just now heading back to the office, finding child care can be difficult to do. Child care programs, despite their best intentions, are having trouble finding and keeping staff, which means less child care options for families.

UPDATE 4:22PM: Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the search and investigation into the suspicious disappearance of Naomi Irion, 18, of Fernley, Nev.

Naomi was last seen in the parking lot of Walmart in Fernley on March 12, 2022 at approximately 5 a.m. hours. The investigation now indicates that the suspect may be driving a dark 2020 or newer Chevrolet, 2500, High Country 4 Door pickup truck.
