Nevada Humanities hosts new exhibition 'Mojave by Jeff Fulmer' opening soon in Las Vegas
As part of the ongoing Nevada Humanities Exhibition Series, a new exhibition, Mojave by Jeff Fulmer, opens at the Nevada Humanities Program Gallery on March 31, 2022, and will be on display as a virtual exhibition indefinitely at nevadahumanities.org.
The Mojave Desert and the vast expanse of the desert southwest are the focus for artist Jeff Fulmer to explore, interpret, and study. Artworks included in this exhibition provide insight into this place — this unique landscape with its variety of endemic plant life, the ever-changing contrasts of light, textures, and patterns that dance across the layers of the desert in the rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Mojave by Jeff Fulmer consists of a series of paintings with lush textures and colors on canvas, wooden panels, and three-dimensional wooden forms inspired by the plant life, landscape, and how the time-of-day affects the shapes and colors of the Mojave Desert. The artwork takes you to places like Railroad Pass and Frenchman’s Mountain along with the majestic desert guardians the Joshua Tree and down close to the desert crust with flowers like the delicate Amargosa Niterwort.
The exhibition will be open to the public for viewing by appointment only Tuesdays through Thursdays from 1 to 4 pm and until 9 pm the first Friday of the month for First Friday events at the Nevada Humanities Program Gallery, 1017 South 1st Street, #190, Las Vegas, Nevada; in-person viewing will close on May 25, 2022. An in-person reception will take place at the Nevada Humanities Program Gallery in Las Vegas on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, from 5 to 8 pm with monitored entry to accommodate social distancing. An exhibition discussion featuring Jeff Fulmer will be held in Suite 150 adjacent to the gallery courtyard at 6 pm on April 6 and simultaneously broadcast on Facebook Live. Space is limited and masks will be required regardless of vaccination status. Contact Bobbie Ann Howell, bahowell@nevadahumanities.org or 702-800-4670 to make a viewing appointment.
“The Mojave Desert and the many beautiful and unique places across Nevada have inspired artists, poets, writers, and everyone who has been surrounded by the natural elements on display to us each day,” said Bobbie Ann Howell, Nevada Humanities Program Manager. “Artists like Jeff Fulmer help us to see it in a new light and remember to tread carefully on this place we are honored to call home.”
