Carson City mother arrested due to child running away from home, walking to father's house
A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested around 8 p.m. on Thursday after her 5-year-old son was found walking to his father's house after running away from home.
According to the arrest report, civilians found the child walking by himself at the corner of Carson Street and College Parkway. They asked if his parents were nearby, and the boy said they were not and that he was “walking home for the first time.”
They asked if he knew his parents' number, and he said he did not. They walked with him past a local inn, and the boy walked up to a door and knocked and stated it was his dad’s house.
When deputies arrived, they spoke with the boy standing in front of an apartment, who said he was 5 years old.
After several minutes, the light in the apartment turned on and the father came to the door. He was speaking to the mother on the phone, who called him and told him their son ran away from home. According to the mother, he had been gone for approximately 20 minutes.
Deputies spoke with the mother on the phone, who stated that their son had been “acting odd all day.” She said she argued with him earlier in the evening during dinner and sent him to his room.
She said after approximately five minutes, she sent his sister to check on him. The window was open and the 5-year-old was gone.
The mother told deputies she had been looking for him for roughly 20 minutes prior to speaking with deputies on the phone, but had not found him. She later told deputies she did not call and report him missing because she “did not think it was a big deal.”
Deputies learned he had ran away from his mother’s house once before and his family had found him at a nearby park.
The mother was taken into custody for child neglect and endangerment because, according to the report, her son was found wandering alone along the side of a busy intersection at night.
Bail: $2,500
