Carson City man breaks ankle of opponent during St. Paddy’s Day casino fist fight
A 51-year-old Carson City man was arrested for felony battery with substantial damage after he broke the ankle of another man during a fight at a N. Carson St. casino.
Just after 8 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a casino in the 500 block of N. Carson St. in reference to two men fighting.
When deputies arrived on scene, one man, later identified as Eric Nielsen was rapidly walking towards the doors. He looked at deputies and said, “That guy started a fight with me,” and attempted to leave.
Deputies asked if he was involved in the fight and he said he was. Deputies took hold of him and escorted him toward the location where the incident occurred.
Nielsen began tensing up and pulling away, so deputies placed him in handcuffs.
Deputies asked him what happened and he said “he hit me first,” and that “he had an attitude.”
Deputies noticed the skin on his left knuckle was opened, along with redness, and there was a rash on the left side of his neck.
Deputies found the other party who was being treated by paramedics and was complaining of pain to his right foot. His foot was being placed in a shin splint and bandage; the man refused to go to the hospital, but advised he wanted to pursue charges for battery.
Deputies viewed video footage of the incident, and saw Nielsen clearly punch the other man in the face, followed by Nielsen and the other man “rolling around on the floor.”
Deputies took Nielsen into custody, and noted he was intoxicated.
At around 10 p.m., deputies learned that the other man suffered a compound fracture to his right ankle and would need surgery for the fracture. The charge was updated to battery with substantial bodily harm.
Bail: $10,000
