Grocery Outlet's July food campaign benefits local agencies

The Grocery Outlet Bargain Market has launched its annual July Independence From Hunger Food Drive to combat hunger. The month-long campaign will collect cash donations and pre-made bags of nonperishable foods in-store at more than 400 U.S. locations to be distributed to local food agencies partners.

Carson City Symphony Association’s “Strings in the Summer,” a program for string-instrument players of all ages and experience levels, will begin on Friday, July 14, 2023. The Carson City Sheriff is pleased to announce the activation of an enhanced summer downtown patrol effort that now includes the presence of the Sheriff’s Mounted Unit.

On June 29, 2023, at about 5:39 p.m., A Special Enforcement Team detective noticed a vehicle committing an improper stop at a red light at North Carson and West Musser. The detective conducted a traffic stop and contacted the driver, identified as 36-year-old Navdip Kahira. A male and female juvenile were also in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop.

Scientists sampling surface waters at Washoe Lake State Park have identified a potential Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) along the shoreline of the lake.

The Interagency HAB Task Force – comprised of officials from the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Nevada State Parks, and the Nevada Department of Wildlife – are working together to ensure the public is notified to help protect the health of park visitors and their pets.

On Thursday, Carson City Pop Warner President Austin Matthews issued a public statement regarding his previous statements given to Carson Now which led to calls for his resignation.

Matthews came under fire after he discussed the fact that convicted sex-offender Gabe Miles, who is married to the CCPW Cheer Coordinator, regularly attends games, practices, and even cross-state trips with the cheer team with support of the board. Miles admitted to and was convicted of having sex with a 14-year-old girl on several different occasions.
