Locals may not know about the new bar in Carson City, Remedy’s, but they certainly remember the bar’s predecessor. Toad’s had a reputation for extreme late nights, bar fights, assault and other crimes.

However, once Toad’s ceased operations, two local business women, Lisa Tucker of Gardnerville and Megan Torres of Carson City, decided to make some changes for the better, take matters into their own hands, and create the relaxing and fun environment they envision at Remedy’s.

CARSON CITY – Nevada taxable sales totaled $3.7 billion in September for a 4.2 percent increase over the same month in 2011, the Department of Taxation reported today.

It was the 27th consecutive month of increases in the economic indicator as the state Economic Forum prepares on Friday to establish the general fund revenue estimates for the 2013-15 budget.

Critical Tattoo in Carson City is making its mark in the world. Owners Sarah and Kenneth Brown developed a product for the niche tattoo market because of his passion for body art.
They design, manufacture and distribute tattoo equipment for a global market, including power supplies, wireless foot pedals and tattoo machines. About 70 percent of their products ultimately end up abroad.

After being at large for more than a decade, a 39-year-old woman with ties to eco-terrorist groups that committed several arson attacks across California, Oregon and in Vail, Colo., surrendered Thursday to the FBI at the Canada-United States border.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon said Rebecca Jeannette Rubin was taken into custody in Blaine, Wash.

CARSON CITY – The city of Reno has been selected as one of only 100 recipients of IBM’s prestigious Smarter Cities Challenge grant for 2013.

Partners in the project include the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, University of Nevada, Reno, EDAWN, Desert Research Institute and the Nevada Institute for Renewable Energy Commercialization.

UPDATE 4:10PM to reflect new video weather briefing: Damaging wind, heavy rain and the potential of minor flooding are possible for the Carson City region as a series of strong winter storms push through California into western Nevada.
Ahead of the systems will be high winds, which has prompted the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a High Wind Warning through 4 p.m. Friday.

Orientation has begun at the Nevada Legislature — not just for the 13 “true freshmen” facing their first endurance test that is a 120-day legislative session, but also for the caucus leaders, who will each be leading their caucuses for the first time.
On Wednesday, three new leaders took their first shot at imparting wisdom to the incoming freshmen in brief speeches that also offered a glimpse into their nascent leadership styles.
