The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit Christmas tree permits are sold out but tree cutting permits remain available on BLM lands in the Pinenut Mountains between Carson City and Yerington, the Clan Alpine and Desatoya mountains east of Fallon, and the Excelsior Mountains southeast of Hawthorne.

This is the time of year when thousands of people are visiting Lake Tahoe as well as our parks. But park rangers say the problem is, most people aren't prepared.

Closing out a multi-year process to update the Lake Tahoe Regional Plan, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board is scheduled to vote Wednesday, Dec. 12 on the updated plan and supportive environmental documents at Harveys Resort convention center in Stateline.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. with brief statements by state leaders whose leadership resulted in key compromises allowing the plan to move forward, according to TRPA officials.

Rakes, shovels, wheel barrels, wood chips and wrenches were united with nearly 170 volunteers Saturday in Carson City, pitching in their time to put up new playground equipment at Bordewich Bray Elementary School.

Through the support of the Let Them be Kids organization that awarded the school equipment, along with faculty, staff, students and parents, the playground equipment is designed with all students, especially those with autism.

Here is the Carson City road repair and maintenance report for the week of Dec. 10-16: A sidewalk project will continue on Silver Sage Drive in the vicinity of Sean Drive and Stafford Way. The work will primarily be on the side of the road, but minor delays are possible.

There will be shoulder work on Center Street between Roland Street and Arthur Street due to utility relocation related to the next phase of the Carson City Freeway. No delays are expected.

Being the capital city of Nevada, Carson City once again shines brighter and bucks the rest, turning the lights on Friday to not one but two Christmas trees during the kick-off of the two-day Snowflake Festival of Lights.

Perched on the State Capital steps, some 300 voices of the Carson City 5th Grade Singing Ensemble sang Christmas carols to a crowd of hundreds (if not thousands) of parents, siblings, dignitaries, retirees, state workers and locals who swelled onto Carson Street in good measure.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has identified the two deceased females that were discovered dead in Voltaire Canyon on Thursday, Dec. 6. Next of kin notifications are complete.
The women are Monique Evans, 20 and Sandra Leggett, 24. Autopsies have been performed on each.

A Carson City woman faces misdemeanor charges of property destruction and violation of bail conditions after she allegedly threw rocks at a vehicle, breaking a windshield.

Officers were dispatched to College Parkway and Emerson Drive for a report of a woman without any clothes on who had a stick and was hitting various objects, according to the arrest report.
