A 32-year-old man in custody at Carson City Jail on other criminal matters had a charge of felony warrant, failure to appear added to charges he faces.

Michael Paul LaClaire, was wanted by Sparks police for charges relating to a felony Class C ($650 to $3,500) embezzlement case, according to the arrest report.

In the late summer of 1963 Susan and I were finishing our three-month Peace Corps training program at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. We had survived the mid-term "deselection process" (a Peace Corps term for the trainees who didn't make it--close to 50% of the students). We had endured weeks of intensive Turkish language instruction and instruction in TEFL (teaching English as a Foreign Language from some of the country's foremost experts. In addition to studying Turkish politics and culture, we wilted under the physical education requirements at 5:00 in the afternoon during a D.C.

Drunk drivers will be cited and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, Nevada Highway Patrol and statewide law enforcement warn.

This Labor Day weekend, law enforcement will be out in full force in Northern Nevada, patrolling the roads for impaired drivers. With the state’s Zero Fatalities goal in mind, drivers should plan ahead and designate a sober driver if their weekend plans involve alcohol.

The inaugural Fight Hunger Show and Shine Car Show to benefit Meals on Wheels rolls through Carson City this Labor Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday at Mills Park.

Hosted by the Carson City Senior Center, the event features classic cars, music, raffles, food and trophies. The show runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Mills Park is located at 1111 E. Williams St. (US Hwy 50 E) in Carson City.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is looking for Kayla Denboer, 21, who was last seen in May and is now considered a missing person. Family members say she may be in the Carson City or Reno areas.

Authorities say Denboer is approximately 5 feet tall, 100 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair. She had been staying at Everybody's Inn motel in Reno when family lost contact with her.

Anyone with information regarding Kayla Denboer is urged to call DCSO Investigator Ed Garren at (775) 782-9907.

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department would like to thank the many employees of Carson City’s Home Depot store for their volunteer work project on August 22nd and 23rd. They arrived at 8:00 A.M. both days and their employees donated their own time to doing various park improvements to Korean War Veterans Memorial Park, located at East Fifth Street and Marsh Road.
