In 1990, six out of 10 Nevada 16-year-olds had their driver’s licenses. By 2011, only one in seven Nevada 16-year-olds had a license.
Nevada follows a national trend of fewer teens getting licenses to drive.

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce will hold its regular Soup's On Luncheon with guest speaker Deputy City Manager Marena Works on Tuesday. RSVP is due today.

All I can say is: What was that? No, not about the 49ers pitiful performance on Sunday but about how the 49ers organization is handling the All-Pro Aldon Smith situation. Aldon Smith was arrested for his second DUI in two years on Friday night after he crashed into a tree in San Jose. The 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said earlier this week that the consequences would not come down by the team but rather by the league itself. Here is part of his statement:

With Street Vibrations rapidly approaching, thousands of motorcyclists are projected to be arriving in Carson City and the surrounding areas. Many events will be held during this time, as riders from around the country come to enjoy this popular event.

As drivers, we will need to pay attention to those riding around us. Not all operators of motorcycles are experienced riders and crashes may occur if both driver and rider are not paying full attention to their surroundings.

The Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City Parks and Recreation is accepting nominations of individuals, organizations, and businesses to be recognized for their contributions to Carson City's parks and recreation.

The selected names will be added to the Memorial Wall at the entrance to the Pony Express Pavilion at Mills Park, followed by an awards ceremony there on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 4:30 p.m. The categories are Organization of the Year, Business of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and Volunteer of the Years.

A massive search and rescue training exercise is underway today in the Ash Canyon and Goni areas of Carson City. According to Sheriff Ken Furlong, the exercise involves active reserves of the Carson City Search and Rescue Team, a mounted horse patrol team and an aerial squadron.

The scenario is there is a search for three people on motorcycles in the canyon areas.
