The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation announces HopeFest 2013, an outdoor concert offering free admission with all sales on food, drinks and raffle tickets directly benefitting local cancer patients.

The outdoor event featuring the band Notch 8 takes place on Friday, October 4 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. outside of the Firkin & Fox restaurant on Third Street in Carson City. The event was rescheduled due to hazardous air conditions caused by the California Rim Fire.

Carson City District Court Judge James Todd Russell has announced he will run for re-election. Judge Russell was appointed to the bench by Nevada Gov. Kenny Guinn in December 2006. He was then elected on Nov. 7, 2008, being unopposed for a six-year term commencing in January 2009.

Judge Russell grew up on Carson City, attended Carson High School and graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1969, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. From 1969 to 1971, he served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant.

A new furniture store in Carson City — The Missing Piece — opened this summer and offers a 3,600 square-foot showroom of pre-owned furniture at affordable prices. Located at 1800 East William Street, the Missing Piece is owned by Kelly and Donna Nolan of Carson City.

Opening the furniture store had been on the minds of the couple for a few years. Donna used to work at a furniture store in Carson City and Kelly builds and sells small furniture as a hobby.

The Western Nevada College softball team’s bullpen just got stronger. Carson High School grad Lindsey Ashbaugh, who played softball at Feather River College in California last year, is coming home to pitch for the Wildcats in 2014.

Wentworth said she is very pleased with the news. The right-hander gives the Wildcats an experienced and proven college pitcher to complement another established sophomore, Carlee Beck, and three freshmen hurlers.

“It’s nice to have someone with maturity at this level. It takes some time to adjust to the next level,” Wentworth said.

A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested Oct. 1, 9 a.m. in the area of Lida Circle on a gross misdemeanor warrant of child abuse or neglect. The warrant was issued Sept. 30 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $2,500.

A power outage affected 159 customers in the areas of Sonoma, Jackson, Grant and Silver Sage early Wednesday morning in Carson City, according to NV Energy. Power was restored at around 8 a.m.

There were outages associated with it at around midnight. Carson City firefighters responded to the outage in which firefighters on the scene reported smoke coming from an underground vault area near Baker and Sonoma streets. NV Energy spokeswoman Faye Andersen said the outage was underground line related.

Lyon County sheriff's investigators are investigating a car and truck fire in which a body was found inside the car.

Officers and fire department personnel were called to the Comfort Suites in Fernley shortly before midnight Tuesday for a vehicle fire at the hotel parking lot, said Lyon County Detective Lt. J.L. Pattison.

Responding units arriving on scene discovered a car and a truck both fully engulfed. Once the fire was extinguished a body was discovered in the car.

At this time Lyon County deputies, Lyon County detectives, and the state fire marshall are investigating.
