The Rescue Campaign was started out of a vision to bring hope and relief to residents in our local community. Our purpose is to meet basic needs and provide assistance through existing and future services such as: the Rescue Bag toiletries project, Pie to the Rescue and a local scholarship program.

It seems, somewhat out of the blue, that Carson Valley has become a topic of national interest. The Valley and its various amenities have been cropping up in major national publications all summer, with the JT Basque Bar & Dining Room getting the most recent mention, in a New York Magazine travel piece.

It’s the latest in what’s been a surprisingly long string of widely-varied publications and channels trumpeting the virtues of the area.

The 75th anniversary of the Nevada Day Parade will be celebrated on Saturday, October 26th, 2013 in Carson City and is expected to produce record-breaking attendance.

The day-long experience is kicked off with the opportunity to ride in a hot air balloon. This is a rare opportunity to participate in a mass ascension with a downtown lift-off in Carson City. A downtown lift-off is extremely rare in the hot air balloon industry. Individuals and businesses can sponsor a balloon, which includes the opportunity to ride in the balloon during the event.

The Bureau of Land Management offices in Carson City, the U.S. Forest Service Office in South Lake Tahoe and the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest offices are all closed due to the federal government shutdown. Also the office for U.S. Sen. Harry Reid in Carson City was closed Tuesday.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has cancelled Forest-Service staffed events because of the lapse in federal government funding, today until funding is restored.

After a Aha Moment Tour stop in Carson City this spring, Northern Nevada resident Cindy Lain’s aha moment is in the top 10 running to become a national TV commercial for Mutual of Omaha, officials announced Monday.

Lain's aha moment occurred when her battle with breast cancer allowed her to find passion and purpose in a way she had never experienced it before. You can learn more about her journey and view her ‘aha moment’ in the video below.

Inspections are made weekly by the Carson City Health and Human Services Environmental Health Division. Inspections include school cafeterias, mobile food vehicles, restaurants and fast food restaurants.

An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Tuesday morning at the intersection of Russell and William streets. He faces misdemeanor charges of possessing drug paraphernalia, minor consuming and contempt of court.

He was arrested at 4:17 a.m. by Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies after attempting to enter a casino and being on Alternative Sentencing with a condition to obey all laws. He submitted to a breath alcohol test which indicated at .163. He also had in his possession a marijuana pipe. Bail: $1,879.

A 20-year-old Carson City man faces a felony home invasion charge after admitting to breaking down the door of a College Parkway residence, punching a flat screen television and leaving.

Jared Olan Smith was arrested Sept. 30, 7:15 p.m. in the 100 block of North Nevada Street. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of commissioning the crime with property destruction.

Monday, September 30, 2013 - 4:28pm

Two men were arrested Sept. 27 and face felony drug charges after Carson City Sheriff's Special Enforcement Team officers found methamphetamine in a console of a van. Both men denied the meth was theirs.

Keith Wayne Furr, 51, and William Dale French, 42, of Dayton were arrested in the 4900 block of Highway 50 East at 5:28 p.m.
