Weather Service: Windy conditions should stick around through the weekend
A strong Pacific jet stream approaching the west coast will bring periods of gusty winds to the eastern Sierra and western Nevada today through this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
The image on the left shows forecast wind gusts for Wednesday afternoon, with the strongest gusts expected in northeast California, northwest Nevada, and across Reno and Carson City where a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m.
Later this week, another period of gusty winds is likely on Friday, with record high temperatures also possible. The strongest winds are most likely by Saturday as a cold front pushes across western Nevada, with potential gusts over 50 mph. This front may also produce a period of snow Saturday night in the Sierra, with possible travel impacts over the higher passes.
The weather service says a much larger system may be headed our way after the weekend that may bring heavy snow to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra, and snow to Carson City sometime Tuesday. Stay tuned.
