Nearly two dozen talented artists from multiple countries are getting ready to paint the town in Carson City this fall. The inaugural Murals and Music Festival, Sept. 28-30, will bring local, national, and international artists to Carson City to paint murals live throughout the city.

In light of September being Suicide Prevention Month, Carson City Juvenile Services will host an awareness event for mental health resources for youth on Wednesday, Sept. 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Carson City Sherriff’s Office, 911 E. Musser St. in Carson City.

Beginning Monday, Sept. 25, drivers will see intermittent lane closures as the Nevada Department of Transportation launches preliminary construction of a year-long highway improvement project to reconstruct U.S. 395 through downtown Gardnerville.

Carson City Supervisors voted Thursday to approve the proposed library mural as part of the Music and Murals Festival that begins next week.

Following discussions, supervisors voted to keep all titles off the spines of the books, to allow the community to envision their own favorite reads and let the art "speak to them" as individuals.
