UPDATE 2PM: CCFD Battalion Chief Chris Mason said the fire involved a single family, single story residence in which fire was involved in one room but didn't spread anywhere else in structure. One person was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons, otherwise there were no injuries. The fire was knocked down within minutes of arrival.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's office deputies were called Sunday afternoon to a structure fire in the 4200 block of Mina Way in northeast Carson City.

A buck attempts to cross the road on Arrowhead Drive east of the airport in Carson City last week. The adult deer was able to get across safely in the precarious situation, a reminder that fall has arrived and wildlife is on the move.

Lauren Stevens has been counseling students at Western Nevada College for more than a decade. As the new director of Academic Advising and Access she’ll have the added responsibility of leading a team of counselors, advisors, mentors and coordinators in Student Services who serve current and potential students.

This Thursday, Sept. 28, Mark Enders, a wildlife biologist with Nevada Department of Wildlife, will discuss the history of western pond turtles in the Carson Valley and the research that NDOW has done to learn more about Nevada’s only native freshwater turtle.
