Here is the Carson City area road construction and maintenance report for the week of Jan. 28 to Feb. 3.
There will be utility work on Hansen Drive between Pat Lane and Armory Lane. There will be full traffic control with flaggers, but minimal delays are expected.

The following work will take place weather permitting:

— Road work on Silver Sage Drive between Sonoma Street and Stafford Way.

Charles Joseph Whitman, in 1966 killed 14 people and wounded 32 others in a mass shooting rampage located in and around the Tower of the University of Texas in Austin on the afternoon of August 1, 1966. Three people were shot and killed inside the university's tower and 11 others were murdered after Whitman fired at random from the 28th-floor observation deck of the Main Building. Did he ever play a video game?

The Carson Area Marketing and PR Network will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6 at the Business Resource Innovation Center (BRIC) located at 108 E. Proctor Street in Carson City. The meeting is free and non-members who are marketing, PR, or journalism professionals may attend with advance notice.

Scheduled to speak is Brent Boynton, News Director for KNPB. Brent will share some clips of his talk show "A Conversation With..." and explain how the program works and his future needs for guests on the program.

Residents are now being allowed to return home after an early morning chemical fire at a plant in Mound House.
Monitoring systems worked during the fire, with all 15 employees inside evacuating safely.

For the first time in program history, the Western Nevada College baseball team will open its season at home.

A rainy forecast in Las Vegas has prompted WNC and South Mountain Community College to move their Friday and Saturday doubleheaders to John L. Harvey Field in Carson City.

“I hope to see the faithful at the yard for 50-degree temperatures tomorrow,” said WNC baseball coach D.J. Whittemore.

Doubleheaders are scheduled for 11 a.m. both days.

UPDATE 11PM: An investigation continued late Thursday night in the Carson City area shooting in which one man was hospitalized and his brother was taken into custody.
The FBI, Washoe Tribal Police and the Carson City Sheriff's Office remained at the scene of the shooting that happened at around 8:30 p.m. Thursday night in the 400 block of Oneida Street. The condition of the victim is unknown.
Detectives from the agencies wouldn't comment on the investigation. An FBI agent arrived at home at around 10 p.m. South Curry Street between Washoe and Oneida was opened shortly after 9 p.m.

UPDATE 9:05PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports the shooting tonight on Oneida Street happened between two adult brothers where one brother was shot in the chest. The alleged shooter is in custody tonight and his brother was being transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

"At this point he is still alive and the brother who shot him is in custody," said Furlong.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office was called as an agency assist to Washoe Tribal Police, Furlong added.
Traffic along Curry Street remained blocked at Washoe and Shoshone as of 9 p.m.
