A man was shot Sunday night in the area of West Washington Street and Sunset in Carson City. The victim was shot in the chest in the middle of the street after a large fight outside a home where there had been a Super Bowl party, witnesses said.
The victim, believed to be 32-years-old, was flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno via CareFlight. His condition is unknown at this time, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. A suspect is at large and was said to be driving a white Ford Mustang. The shooting was reported at around 8:35 p.m. at 921 West Washington Street at the corner of Sunset.
Officers and Carson City rescue personnel administered CPR at the scene before the man was flown to Renown Medical Center via CareFlight. The victim was said to be losing consciousness at the time he was transported.
A coroner has been notified, according to police scanner traffic. There are several people who were witnesses to the shooting. Neighbor Lisa Lombardo said she and her family were indoors and her father stepped out after hearing fighting outside. He walked outside, went back in and told his daughter that there were several men fighting.
Lombardo said she walked outside her home, which is next door to hers, and saw several men fighting in the street. She called 911 and as she was speaking with dispatch she saw gunfire.
"It was a big orange flash and bang and I heard a woman scream "Jimmy's been shot! Jimmy's been shot! I didn't stick around to see what happened and came back inside," said Lombardo.
The house at 921 West Washington Street was home to a few people, she said, who have lived there for about five or six months. She said the Super Bowl party started early at the home, around 11 a.m. and that both sides of the street filled up with vehicles.
"There was a lot of people," she said.
