An unemployed 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday and faces felony charges including burglary and possession of a dangerous weapon after attempting to steal 49 items valued at $741 from Walmart.

Anthony Wayne Harris was arrested in the 3200 block of Market Street at 11:01 p.m. According to the arrest report a cashier stopped the man after he was seen leaving the store with a shopping cart full of merchandise.

Earlier this week, State Senator Don Gustavson introduced Senate Bill 191. It would allow the Nevada Department of Transportation to raise the speed limit wherever it determines that speed can be done safely.
The idea of getting there faster is appealing to anyone who has driven the long, seemingly never-ending stretches of lonely Nevada highway.

Nearly half of the $7.4 million in gold coins found in the house of a reclusive man were auctioned off Tuesday, and one of the winning bidders said they will be put on the open market.
The auction, conducted in the heavily guarded Carson City courthouse, yielded $3.5 million, or about $13,000 higher than the closing price on the market of gold. It will satisfy about $800,000 in government estate taxes and fees.

CARSON CITY — On Jan. 23, 2013, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Carson City District Office began removing 11 problem wild horses on the outskirts of Carson City, Nev. The horses are a part of the Pine Nut Mountains herd management area (HMA) that is adjacent to Deer Run Road in Carson City. These horses routinely cross the Carson River into River View City Park, where the BLM has received several complaints of people feeling threatened by the wild horses.

Carson City Library will present Explore Chile at Your Library on Thursday, March 7 at 6 p.m. in the library auditorium. Danilo A. Muñoz Ormeño was born in the city of Los Angeles in the beautiful country of Chile.

In Chile, he studied theater at Viña del Mar. He came to the USA in 2010 and lives in Carson City, Nevada. Danilo is working in the culinary arts.

The Nevada State Health Division has awarded three planning grants to Nevada organizations to develop new or enhance existing comprehensive school-based health centers. Approximately 19,000 students from three Nevada counties — Lyon, Washoe and Clark — stand to benefit from the grants. Grant monies will also be used to enhance school emergency preparedness.

Grant recipients — Healthy Communities Coalition, Nevada Board of Regents and Community Health Alliance Foundation — identify main schools for the SBHCs, and arrange for several “feeder schools” to participate.

Carson City Library and Nevada Legal Services continue to provide free legal education clinics and workshops every 4th Thursday of each month. This month, Thursday, Feb. 28, the Self Help Forms Completion Clinic will begin at 1:30 p.m.

This workshop will provide general instructions and assistance regarding the completion of self-help forms for those who are self-represented litigants. A Notary Public will also be available.

February’s Education Clinic will begin at 3:30 p.m. Sealing Criminal Records is the topic for the Education Clinic.

Even though he lived in the same quiet neighborhood for decades, no one seemed to know Walter Samaszko Jr. He was so unknown that weeks passed before authorities discovered he had died in his modest Carson City home.
