Carson City man jailed after attempting to steal shopping cart full of merchandise

An unemployed 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday and faces felony charges including burglary and possession of a dangerous weapon after attempting to steal 49 items valued at $741 from Walmart.

Anthony Wayne Harris was arrested in the 3200 block of Market Street at 11:01 p.m. According to the arrest report a cashier stopped the man after he was seen leaving the store with a shopping cart full of merchandise.

The clerk asked Harris in the parking for a receipt and Harris said he didn't have one, the arrest report states. He was escorted to loss prevention and a Carson City deputy was called.

Harris was read his Miranda rights and he declined to speak about the incident with the arresting officer. He was arrested and searched in which one of the items recovered was brass knuckles. Bail: $22,500.

In other felony-related arrests:

A 23-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday and faces a felony charge of being in violation of her probation and a misdemeanor charge of having a warrant for being in contempt of court. The woman, Amanda Ashley Hayes, was arrested in the 200 block of California Street at 11:38 a.m.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the address regarding the warrant. Upon arrival officer made contact with the woman through dispatch and a wants and warrants check. Dispatch advised she had a confirmed warrant out of Carson City Justice Court for contempt of court, with bail set at $3,000 cash. Dispatch also advised the woman is currently on state probation and that the probation department requested a no bail hold.

— A 27-year-old Carson City woman was booked into Carson City Jail on Monday and faces 9 felony charges after she was delivered by a company in charge of tracking people with warrants.
Miranda Jones was placed under arrest for the warrant out of Carson City Justice Court. Among the felony charges are burglary, obtaining false ID for unlawful purpose, false statements to obtain a driver's license, burglary, uttering a forged instrument, obtaining money under false pretenses. Bail: $50,000.

In non-felony related arrests:

— A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday at the intersection of Stewart and William streets and faces four misdemeanor charges including driving under the influence, driving without a valid license, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, and failure to yield from a private drive.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to a traffic accident near the intersection. An officer who saw the accident said he observed a black Suzuki SUV pull out of the Jack in the Box restaurant parking lot and turn north onto Stewart Street with the SUV failing to yield to oncoming traffic and then hit another vehicle which was also traveling north on Stewart Street.

Officers made contact with the man who was sitting in the driver's seat and was the sole occupant of the vehicle. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from vehicle. The officer asked if there was any marijuana in the vehicle and the man replied there was a small amount underneath the driver's seat and then proceeded to find and remove for the officer a plastic baggie with marijuana. The officer weighed the marijuana which was about 20 grams, the report states. He stated that he had smoked marijuana the previous night.

The officer had the man pull the vehicle into the fast food restaurant parking lot and he was asked if he would be willing to take a field sobriety test. The man agreed to the test and denied ever having drank alcohol though a strong odor of alcohol was on the man's breath, the report states.

During the horizontal gaze and Nystagmus Test, the arresting officer reports six clues indicating possible impairment, the report states. The officer then had the man preform a walk and turn and a one legged stand test after he explained and demonstrated the test to the man. The man could not perform the test. He was given a preliminary breath test where he blew a .120.
He was arrested. Bail: $2,158.

A 25-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested Tuesday and faces a misdemeanor charge of being in violation of a suspended sentence. The man was transported to Carson City by Douglas County Sheriff's officers. The bench warrant was for failure to report for probation, attend intensive outpatient counseling and pay fines and fees. Bail: $3,000.

— A 52-year-old Carson City man was arrested Feb. 25, 7:23 p.m. in the 500 block of East William and faces a charge of disorderly conduct.
Police were called to the Carson City grocery store in reference to fire personnel meeting with an intoxicated man.

Once on the scene officers made contact with the man inside the store near the slot machines. Had the apparent signs of being under the influence and was slurring his words, according to the arrest report.

When an officer attempted to speak with the man he became angry and told the officer "F*** you" among other obscenities, the report states. The officer told the drunk man to stop yelling and using profanity. The man didn't abide by the orders and was taken to jail. A breath test indicated he had a alcohol content of .292.

— A 43-year-old Carson City bartender was jailed for driver on a suspended or revoked license and revoked registration. The man was stopped Tuesday at the intersection of North Saliman and East William at 1:47 a.m. The man was stopped due to an inoperable license plate light. A registration confirmed the vehicle was suspended. Dispatch advised the man did not have a valid driver's license for failure to appear for a traffic citation and pay fines and fees. The license had been suspended since June 2009.

— A 46-year-old Carson City man faces a domestic battery charge after being arrested Monday at 12:08 a.m. in the 1400 block of North Stewart Street. According to the arrest report, officers were called to a residence and met individually with the couple arguing. The man said that he had kicked his girlfriend out of the residence they shared, and that she wouldn't leave. He said the woman was sitting on a couch and wouldn't budge and so he grabbed the woman, who he said took hold of his face. The man said whens she did this he grabbed her, gesturing toward the throat, the report states.

The woman told authorities that she had come to the residence to pick up her belongings and that the man began to fight with her, pushing her to the floor and then attempting to choke her.

Officers observed scratch marks on the man's left cheek and right temple. Officers observed a scratch mark on the right side of the woman's neck. The man at first denied the battery, then admitted it, and then denied it again. Officers noted a strong odor of alcohol on the man's breath. He refused to take a breath test. Bail: $3,000.

— Those arrested and face charges are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A 63-year-old housekeeper was arrested Thursday for 14 counts of credit card fraud and other offenses after allegedly stealing a credit card belonging to an 86-year-old patient who family members said was being treated for a stroke at a local care facility, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office detective.

On May 15th, 2024, shortly after midnight, deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on the 600 block of Angela Street in Fernley, Nev., reference a caller who reported that he had murdered his mother. The caller additionally provided that he barricaded himself inside the house, was armed with a rifle, and had planted pipe bombs at the residence.

On a sunny Saturday morning, 100 volunteer participants fanned out across Lake Tahoe’s South Shore to take water quality samples from 34 streams, creeks, ponds, and lakes to monitor the health of the Truckee River watershed and Lake Tahoe as part of the 24th annual Snapshot Day. They were joined by teams doing the same tests simultaneously in other regions of the watershed.

Just before noon on Tuesday a crash with injuries was reported on the I-580 on ramp from N. Carson Street.

According to dispatch there are two vehicles involved, one of which was towing a trailer.

Injuries have been reported and the number two lane is blocked.

Traffic cameras show vehicles are moving slowly but are able to get through to Washoe Valley.

Motorists must use caution in the area.
