A 19-year-old Minden man died Thursday after the ATV vehicle he was driving was struck head-on by a Ford F-150 truck. The accident happened just before 9:30 a.m. on Sunrise Pass Road near Juniper Valley behind the Johnson Lane subdivision in the Pinenut Mountains.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies say the dune buggy, driven by Daniel Palmer, was speeding west on a dirt road when it slid and drifted head on into the path of an oncoming older Ford F-150.

Molly Walt has asked for a recount of ballots in the Carson City Ward 4 Supervisor race. Walt, the incumbent, lost the race to Jim Shirk by just 25 votes during the Nov. 6 General Election.

National power Western Nevada College Baseball continues to make more splashes in the NCAA Division I rank. Evan Parker, Mike Umscheid, and Brandon Show have already signed letters of intent to play at 4 year colleges starting in the fall of 2013. This will put the number of WNC Baseball players to move onto higher levels at 95 in just seven seasons.

UPDATE 12:30AM: From Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong regarding Wednesday night's stabbing: At approximately 9:33 p.m. Wednesday the Carson City Sheriff’s Office was informed of a juvenile male, age 17, that had been stabbed during an altercation at the corner of Colorado and Arizona streets in south Carson City. Sheriff’s deputies and paramedics located the victim at a nearby residence with a severe wound to the stomach. The juvenile was transported by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center.

The Carson Nugget continues its 58-year Carson City Thanksgiving tradition Thursday as it rolls out its free holiday feast for the entire community.
Preparation began on Monday and continues all the way until the doors of the Nugget's Convention Center open at 11 a.m. More than 40 volunteers have signed up and at least 850 people are expected. In previous years, the spread fed more than 1,000.

Nevada Fire Safe Council filed a voluntary Chapter 7 petition this week, seeking to liquidate debt and essentially end operations. Documents list liabilities of up to $10 million and assets of anywhere from zero to $50,000.
The council established in 1999 shut down last spring after a federal audit released in February revealed irregularities in how it handled grants, the Nevada Appeal reports.

Gusty winds will continue today for Carson City, Carson Valley and Virginia City areas as a cold front pushes through the region. A Wind Advisory that was set to expire at 10 this morning has been extended to 4 this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
