The Carson City Board of Supervisors meet at 8 a.m. today at the Carson City Sheriff's Office Ormsby Room, 911 East Musser, for an orientation on the following:

- Presentation on Open Meeting Law, Public Records, and Ethics/Civility
- Presentation on General Government Finance
- Presentation on the Active Strategy Program
- Presentations regarding department operations

Southwest Gas is warning customers about a number of individuals who have posed themselves as utility employees in the Carson City area.

In a news release the utility noted that employees always wear a company uniform, display Southwest Gas identification cards, usually only come to a home and enter when service is requested at the customers request and identify themselves and the purpose of their visit.

Two people were arrested in Reno early Wednesday morning and face multiple felony charges after being found driving a car stolen from Carson City, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

Arrested were Samuel Phompadith, 31, and Jennifer Violet Peters, 30. Both are from Reno. The 1993 Honda Civic they had been driving had been originally reported stolen by the owner earlier this month to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying the man shown in the photo above and photos attached below, considered a person of interest in an attempted burglary early Tuesday morning at the Walmart Tire and Lube Center on Topsy Lane, in north Douglas County.

The incident occurred at 2:25 a.m., when the man tried to forcibly enter an exterior rear door at the shop, said Douglas County Sgt. Pat Brooks.

UPDATE 5:12PM: NV Energy reports that 800 homes south of Carson City remain without power late this afternoon after an outage that affected an area from Mica Drive to the south side of Johnson Lane. Initially the outage, which happened at around 1:30 this afternoon, affected 2,000 customers but 1,200 were quickly restored through a series of switching mechanisms, said NV Energy spokeswoman Faye Andersen.
The power circuits are underground and the system is being corrected by sections, she said.

A robbery has been reported this afternoon at the AM/PM on South Carson Street in Carson City. It happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. The suspect is said to have taken off with money he took from a customer and a weapon was not seen.

The suspect is reported to be a Hispanic or white male who jumped into the passenger seat of a green SUV or Dodge wagon that was last seen headed westbound near 7th Street. The suspect is described as wearing a camouflage green jacket, light in color and blue jeans, according to a description given to Carson City sheriff's deputies.

Dish Network will close about 300 Blockbuster stores across the country, including the one in Carson City and two in the Reno area. The company says the closings will result in around 3,000 employees losing their jobs.
