The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department is advising citizens not to walk on or do any activities on frozen ponds and waterways in the area. Even though temperatures have been frigid in the region lately, these frozen bodies of water are not safe to be on because of the inconsistent thickness of the ice.

Please stay off the ice for your safety and inform children of the danger as well. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department at (775) 887-2262.

Carson Tahoe Continuing Care patients have been safely transferred and water pipes are being repaired after a sprinkler ruptured Tuesday at the facility, hospital officials said Wednesday.

Three patients were relocated to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center and the flood was contained and stabilized. Repairs are expected to take about a week on the building section that was affected. No other patients will be relocated nor where there other services affected at the Carson Tahoe Specialty Medical Center, officials said.

CARSON CITY — Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval declared a state of emergency Tuesday, citing extreme winter conditions in the Silver and prolonged periods of freezing temperatures that have increased the demand for propane in the Nevada.

“The declaration is a precautionary measure to ensure propane truck operators can support the needs of Nevada citizens during this prolonged cold weather pattern,” Sandoval said.

Baseball pollsters weren’t reluctant to include a young Western Nevada College squad among the top teams in their preseason rankings, given the Wildcats’ penchant for success over the past several years.

WNC, which made it to the JUCO World Series for the third time in program history last spring, has been ranked eighth in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll. The honor came despite the fact that Head Coach D.J. Whittemore must replace 15 of his top 18 players from a team that posted a 48-17 record and won the NJCAA Western District title for a third time.

Carson City authorities arrested two men, both with felony convictions, on various felony weapon and drug charges after a traffic stop at 11:45 p.m. Jan. 12 in the 1400 block of Rand. A loaded rifle "ready to fire" tucked in the front seat of the vehicle, knives and methamphetamine were confiscated.

Dareck Gregory Pollock, 38, of Wellington, and Robert Lee Hill, 37, of Ridgecrest were taken into custody by Carson City authorities after a search of the men and vehicle turned up the gun, knives and drugs.
