Gas prices are trending up, leaving many motorists pretty frustrated. Even with the recent climb, GasBuddy.com said gas prices are about 13 cents higher year-over-year. But that might not be the case for long.
Gas Analysts said the price of gas is skyrocketing because the price of oil is on the rise.

CARSON CITY – Insurance Commissioner Scott J. Kipper is warning Nevadans about a telephone scam circulating in the Silver State.
The scam is an automated call that tells consumers that their zip code has been re-evaluated and that they now qualify for lower insurance rates. According to a news release, consumers are then asked to “press one for more information,” if they do, they will be transferred to a voicemail system that asked them to leave personal information.

Carson High School in Carson City now has its own “Senators” debit card for student checking accounts. The card was designed by students through a contest held by Greater Nevada Credit Union, which has an educational branch inside of the high school.

Carson City authorities are reportedly speaking with a man who allegedly brandished a weapon at a car dealership employee.
The incident happened shortly before 2 p.m. Monday. According to police scanner traffic, a man had an argument with an employee at Michael Hohl dealership on South Carson Street in which a silver or metallic handgun was allegedly brandished and then the man left in a vehicle.
At the time of this report, sheriff's deputies have been unable to find a weapon.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong released more details in the shooting Sunday night that left a Carson City man dead. James Lay, 32, of Carson City, was fatally shot in the chest Sunday night in the 900 block of West Washington Street.

A 49-year-old man was sentenced Monday in Carson City District to up to 6 years in prison for one felony count of eluding a peace officer and one count of sales of a controlled substance.
Mark Garner of Carson City, will spend up to 12 years in prison, according to a news release from the Carson City District Attorney's Office.

Photographs by Reno artist Peter Goin featured in an exhibition called Arboles de Cholula, Spanish for Trees of Cholula, are on display at OXS Gallery through March 22. The award-winning artist and local professor will discuss his work at a free public reception hosted by the Nevada Arts Council from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7. After meeting with multiple child abuse agencies and being advised where FACA can help most in the greater Carson City community, it has been decided that the new focus for Fighters Against Child Abuse in 2013 will be in the area of prevention.
