UPDATE 10:35AM: David Michael Grimes, 32, of Dayton is being held on $250,000 bail in Carson City Jail and faces a charge of murder after allegedly shooting James Lay, 32, outside of his Carson City home.

UPDATE 10:44PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong confirms the victim in Sunday night's shooting outside a Carson City home has died. At approximately 8:35 p.m. Sunday night, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man shot at the 900 block of West Washington Street in Carson.

A fan club of the TV Show "Bonanza" has announced it will hold its 2014 Bonanza Roundup Convention in Carson City at Gold Dust West.
The event is set for June 26-30, 2014 and marks a return to the Silver State, which hosted a similar Roundup in 2009.

According to the official Bonanza Roundup website, Carson City organizers have planned to open up many locations and homes that were a part of the popular TV show that ran from 1959 to 1973 with 430 episodes.

Nevada legislators launch their biennial session Monday facing the possibility that little will actually happen.
Gov. Brian Sandoval, who has been a cautious head of state, is facing re-election and might have higher political aspirations, making him loath to propose any sweeping, controversial changes. Democratic leadership is afraid to admit they want to raise taxes, and they don’t have the two-thirds majority to raise money by themselves.

Alfred Doten had one of the longest tenures of any Sagebrusher in the history of the Comstock. His Nevada career began at Como in 1863, and ended 40 years later with his death in Carson City in 1903.  Today Doten is remembered for the journals he wrote spanning 54 years documenting his career and personal experiences. Seventy years after his death, the University of Nevada Press published a massive three volume set, weighing a hefty 14 1/2 pounds, titled: “The Journals of Alfred Doten 1849-1903.”

The man accused in the death of 19-year-old Desiree Bragg was ordered held without bail during a Friday hearing. Carson City resident Leonardo Cardoza, 28, was arraigned on a charge of open murder with a deadly weapon.

A 57-year-old Carson City caregiver was arrested early Friday morning after deputies clocked the man doing at least 95 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The incident happened at 4:47 a.m. The man was arrested at the intersection of Highway 50 and Flint Road. He faces a misdemeanor speeding charge, as well as misdemeanor reckless wanton driving, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

The white walls on the second floor, outside the banquet rooms of the Carson Nugget, are in the process of being transformed. Right now they contain the mural paintings of Kit Carson, V&T Railroad, Dat So La Lee, the Carson Mint, Carson Nugget, Roosevelt’s Speech Capital Building, Carson Brewery and Capital Building; but soon those walls could contain so much more.

“The hope is to show Carson City’s uniqueness as well as the love and pride we have for our home and community,” said Gardnerville artist Beverly Caputo.
