Health agencies in Carson City and Washoe County have each received a $125,000 two-year grant that will be used to explore ways to partner, otherwise known as "cross-jurisdictional sharing."

The Carson City Health and Human Services and Washoe County Health District are recipients of Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grants that will aid in the mission of protecting and promoting health in both counties, according to a news release.

Law enforcement agencies in Carson City and across Northern Nevada will team up Super Bowl Sunday and increase the number of patrol officers roads and highways looking for impaired motorists.

With a federally funded “joining forces” grant secured by the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety, additional law enforcement personnel from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Highway Patrol, and the Reno and Sparks police departments will be on overtime shifts saturating the region Sunday afternoon and evening looking for motorists who may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Rotary Club of Carson City will host and sponsor a Chicken Soup and Crackers Food Drive For Carson City's Food for Thought through the entire month of February.

Donation bins will be available at various businesses in Carson City and the Food for Thought offices, 3246 N. Carson Street, Suite 118, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said today that detectives have confirmed the death of Desiree Bragg, 19. The young woman died late Wednesday afternoon at Renown Medical Center in Reno. An autopsy is being performed today at the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office. The full results of the autopsy report are not expected for approximately 4 weeks.
