Nevada’s seasonal adjusted unemployment rate went up slightly in March to 9.7 percent, up from 9.6 percent in February, the state's unemployment department reports.

Carson City’s rate dropped slightly from 10.7 percent in February, to 10.6 percent, but continues to have the highest rate of Nevada metro areas. However, Carson City is down considerably from 12.2 percent a year ago.

With spring in full swing, several road projects are underway in Carson City. Here is the road report for the week of April 22-28:

Because of continued construction of the Carson City Freeway project, Snyder Avenue is closed between E. Roland Street and Center Drive. Center Drive and Silver Sage Drive are also closed south of Appion Way. Bennett Avenue is closed between Center Drive and Bigelow Drive.

The plan for making downtown more pedestrian, bike, and business friendly was presented and voted on at the Board of Supervisors meeting on the evening of April 18. It was a special session that made it more for convenient for the public to attend. The Mayor chose not to hold speakers to a time limit, giving everyone a chance to speak their mind. And that they did.  The meeting began at 6:30 PM with an overview of the project from Public Works, followed by public commentary, and didn’t wrap up with the final vote until 10:30 PM.

Inspections include several restaurants, fast food restaurants, convenience stores, bar and grills, a casino bar and lounge, retail grocer's meat, deli, produce, coffee shop and food-to-go departments.

You may have seen her at The Improvs, Catch A Rising Star, the Comedy Channel, Fox’s Comedy Tonight, or on Candid Camera. She is currently a regular cast member of the national comedy hit, The 3 Blonde Moms. Kat hosts her own cable show called, "Speak Up, With Kat Simmons." She won the eWomen Network's international talent contest in Dallas in 2009.

This is the second year the Carson City Chamber of Commerce has organized a Home & Garden Show to showcase the many businesses that can help homeowners improve their homes and gardens.

This Saturday, April 20th, Greenhouse Garden Center will again take center stage showcasing their expertise and creativeness in creating a unique garden setting that only the professionals at Greenhouse can create. Owner David Ruf and staff will be on hand to conduct informative seminars as well.
