Nevada Senator Harry Reid today on Earth Day announced that USDA Rural Development has approved a loan of $3,002,000 and a grant of $2,312,794 to replace the wastewater treatment plant that serves the Virginia City and Gold Hill communities in Storey County. The existing plant is past its useful life.

Outstanding Western Nevada College students and faculty have been honored for outstanding scholarship and teaching during the 2012-2013 academic year.

Awards were presented to students for academic excellence, tutoring, peer mentorship, athletics, those in the Latino cohort and in student government, as well as to faculty for outstanding teaching and service during the 2012-13 academic year.

Faculty of the Year honors went to Mathematics Professor Michael Hardie, Ed.D. and English instructor Ryan Stryffeler, Ph.D.

A 38-year-old Douglas County woman was shot in the abdomen following an argument Saturday night in the 1300 block of Waterloo Lane.
The woman and her 35-year-old brother, who had contusions to his head, were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries.

A 42-year-old Carson City woman was jailed Saturday and faces two felony drug charges and a charge of being a felon in possession of an electronic stun gun.

Patricia Louise Barkley, was arrested at 12:11 p.m. April 20 on East Nye. According to the arrest report, officers stopped a vehicle based on information that the owner faced a warrant for his arrest.

A brush fire was reported this morning in the area of Clear Creek and Center as was a possible gas leak near the Stewart Community Center. Carson City firefighters were called at around 9 a.m. near the intersection of Gibson and Center for the rush fire and, nearby, a strong odor of natural gas at the Stewart Community Center.
The gas leak was confined to a stove. The brush fire was knocked down at around 9:30 a.m.
A fire investigator was called.

Café at Adele’s joins Northern Nevada Hopes’ ‘Dining Out for Life’ in making a difference in the lives of those living with HIV.

On Thursday, April 25, Café at Adele’s will donate 20 percent of every dining ticket total to Northern Nevada Hopes so the non-profit organization can continue its work of raising awareness about and providing STD, HIV and Hepatitis C testing, as well as providing extensive support and medical care for those living with HIV in northern Nevada.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong confirms that a body has been found inside an overturned SUV about three miles up Ash Canyon. The incident is believed to be suicide after receiving reports the person had said they were going to end their life, the sheriff added.

Carson City fire and rescue, search and rescue and sheriff's office patrol deputies made their way up Ash Canyon Sunday afternoon after the over-turned SUV-type vehicle was found. The body inside the vehicle was said to require extrication.
