CARSON CITY - Halfway through the 2013 Nevada Legislative Session, a little levity may be in order. As things heat up inside the legislative chambers, members of the Nevada Assembly and Senate will take it outside on Thursday afternoon and de-stress at the biennial Legislative Softball Game.

For the third time, the event will take place at John L. Harvey Field on the campus of Western Nevada College, in the capital city. The first pitch will be at approximately 5 p.m. Admission is free.

With the Opening Day of the 2013 California fishing season right around the corner on Saturday, April 27, if you are planning to fish on the Opening Day or the entire Opening Weekend, this is a special reminder that you will need to possess the proper 2013 license to be legal.

Most of the parents my therapy partner and I have ever dealt with wish that their children had come with a handbook on how to raise them the day they were born. As the nurse handed you your newborn infant, there would have been a step by step instruction manual attached to the corner of the blanket specifically written about your child.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Honor Guard and Chaplain dedicated a new flag pole at the administrative complex on Wednesday. The ceremony kicked off a second presentation where three deputies were awarded the “Life Saving Medal” for assertive medical actions resulting in the saving of a life. Deputy Matt Putzer, John Hitch, and Chris Ramos all received medals for their service. The ceremony was concluded as Deputy Bill Richards was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Carson City sheriff's deputies have made several court violation arrests since Monday. The arrests have been both misdemeanor and felony related. Arrests have also been made that involved domestic abuse, theft, driving under the influence of drugs and huffing.

Deputies arrested a 28-year-old transient with outstanding felony and gross misdemeanor warrants. Melanie Huddleston, was arrested early Wednesday morning, 3:16 a.m. at a casino in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East.

After numerous amendments and attempted changes, Senate Bill 49, which would require candidates to be more transparent in how they report and spend campaign contributions, passed the Senate by a vote of 13-8 and will now move on to the Assembly. The winners of the Carson Memories photo contest were announced this week in a ceremony held at the Carson Nugget.

The Carson Memories contest asked participants to submit their favorite photos demonstrating something special or distinct about the Carson City area.

The winning photos, along with the other select photos, are being incorporated into an exhibit created by Gardnerville artist, Beverly Caputo. The exhibit is featured next to a recently finished mural painted by Caputo. The mural depicts key people, places and things of historical relevance to Carson City.

A program designed for professionals and parents throughout Northern Nevada on how to teach water safety and swimming to children with autism will be this Friday, April 26, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 27, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Carson City Aquatic Center, 841 N Roop St Carson City.

The instructor is Dawn Lewellyn of Clearwater Florida, CTRS, WSI, AI, KIT Trainer of My World Therapeutic Recreation Services, LLC.

Children will be in the water with instructors and one parent will need to be in the water with their child.
