The call letters KUNR first broke through the FM radio airwaves on Oct. 7, 1963 with a short 15-minute broadcast that reached listeners in a 13-mile radius. Today, KUNR 88.7 is an affiliate of National Public Radio that serves 45,000 weekly listeners in 20 communities in Northern Nevada and Northeastern California.

This year marks KUNR’s 50th year of public broadcasting on the University of Nevada, Reno’s campus. The station has become a staple in the community and continues to be a growing source of local and regional news.

A 21-year-old Carson City man faces a gross misdemeanor charge of child endangerment/abuse and misdemeanor domestic battery after he was arrested Sept. 22, in the 3000 block of Florentine Drive.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to an Airport Road address for a domestic battery. Officers report the victim, who is pregnant, and the suspect were arguing and the man pushed the victim out of the front door of the apartment. The victim told officers they were arguing because the man wanted to go to the bar rather than spend time with her, the arrest report states.

A Carson City jail inmate faces a felony battery charge after allegedly assaulting a fellow inmate with a mop bucket ringer during a fight causing a skull fracture and a laceration to the eye.

Eduardo Reyes, 43, faces the charge after the incident reported at 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 20. According to the incident report, officers were called to a jail pod after an inmate was discovered to have a laceration to the right corner of his eye.

In 1990, six out of 10 Nevada 16-year-olds had their driver’s licenses. By 2011, only one in seven Nevada 16-year-olds had a license.
Nevada follows a national trend of fewer teens getting licenses to drive.

All I can say is: What was that? No, not about the 49ers pitiful performance on Sunday but about how the 49ers organization is handling the All-Pro Aldon Smith situation. Aldon Smith was arrested for his second DUI in two years on Friday night after he crashed into a tree in San Jose. The 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said earlier this week that the consequences would not come down by the team but rather by the league itself. Here is part of his statement:

As drivers, we will need to pay attention to those riding around us. Not all operators of motorcycles are experienced riders and crashes may occur if both driver and rider are not paying full attention to their surroundings.
