Carson City inmate suffers skull fracture after being hit in head with mop wringer

A Carson City jail inmate faces a felony battery charge after allegedly assaulting a fellow inmate with a mop bucket ringer during a fight causing a skull fracture and a laceration to the eye.
Eduardo Reyes, 43, faces the charge after the incident reported at 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 20. According to the incident report, officers were called to a jail pod after an inmate was discovered to have a laceration to the right corner of his eye.
The inmate stated Reyes hit him in the head with a metal portion of the mop bucket wringing device, according to the arrest report. Reyes was read his Miranda rights in which he admitted to going to the back shower room to fight with the inmate. As a result of the fight, the inmate obtained the laceration to the right corner of his eye and swelling on his right forehead.
The inmate was taken to Carson Tahoe Medical Center for treatment where it was learned the inmate suffered a skull fracture from the incident. Reyes was booked for battery by a prisoner with a deadly weapon with substantial bodily harm. Bail: $30,000.
In other felony-related arrests:
— A 21-year-old Carson City man faces a felony charge of being in violation of probation, and misdemeanor charges of DUI and driving on a suspended license. Austin Wayne Rivers was arrested at 4:44 a.m. on Sept. 22 at the intersection of Mary and Hillcrest streets.
According to the arrest report, officers responded to the area for a report of a single vehicle rollover accident. Upon arrival officers saw a Jeep Grand Cherokee on its top. Officer made contact with Rivers who said he had been driving the vehicle when it crashed into a parked vehicle and rolled.
Rivers had a moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage from from his breath, as well as red watery and glassy eyes and his speech was thick and slurred, the arrest report states. Officers asked him if he had been drinking and the man told them he had six beers.
He performed a series of standard field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. A computer check showed Rivers to be on state probation. He also had his driver's license suspended for driving without a license. He is being held without bail on the felony probation violation charge.
— A 45-year-old transient was arrested Sept. 20, 4:04 a.m. in the 400 block of North Carson Street. Audra Jane Snider faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of obstructing an officer and being in violation of a suspended sentence.
Officers were flagged down at a casino regarding a drug paraphernalia report. Officers spoke with the woman who confirmed that she did drop a backpack and leave the casino with a friend, according to the arrest report.
She told the officer she knew a meth pipe was in the backpack but said it wasn't hers. She was asked to identify herself in which she said she didn't have any ID. She provided a false birthday and Social Security number. Officers asked if she had any meth on her. She paused and said there maybe was some meth in her pocket but claimed the pants she was wearing were not hers, the arrest report states.
She was read her Miranda rights and was asked to empty her pockets. She pulled out a small baggie of suspected methamphetamine that fell to the ground. She was arrested. Bail: $6,632.
Those arrested and facing charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
