Genevieve Masters has begun her new position as deputy supervisor for the 6.3 million-acre Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, officials announced Wednesday.

Masters arrived from the Apache-Sitgreaves’ National Forest in Arizona, where she served as the ecosystem staff officer since 2009.

“I look forward to getting to know the employees and contributing to a positive and transparent work environment,” said Masters. “I also look forward to working together with employees, communities, and stakeholders to manage the natural resources of the Humboldt-Toiyabe.”

Employers wanting to know about what to expect from the Affordable Care Act are invited to a Carson City luncheon next month hosted by the Nevada Business Group on Health.

The “Look into Your Future” luncheon on Dec. 4 will feature guest speaker Russ Sullivan, attorney and vice president of Health Care Solutions for the Associated Industries of Massachusetts, who will present an interactive session that draws upon lessons from Massachusetts’ seven-year health care reform experience. Sullivan will provide insight into how to prepare for the changes ahead.

The highly anticipated Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company production of Les Misérables is now underway at the Carson City Community Center with 10 performances of the famed international hit weekends through Nov. 24.

Produced and directed by Stephanie Arrigotti, choreographed by Gina Kaskie Davis and conducted by Kevin Murphy, the stage production features a cast of nearly 60 performers and is complemented by a professional orchestra.

A Carson City man was arrested Nov. 5, 7 p.m. near Sherman Lane and Dori Way. He faces a gross misdemeanor charge of being an ex-felon carrying a concealed weapon and misdemeanor charges of failure to register as an ex-felon and not having a bicycle headlight.

According to the arrest report, a deputy patrolling the area stopped the man for not having a headlight on his bicycle. The arresting officer asked the man if he had any identification and the man responded he did not and provided a name and birth date.

A Carson City man was arrested and faces a felony burglary charge after a brief foot chase through a field where he was taken into custody. Edmund Adam Tyree, 25, is being held in the Carson City Jail with a bail of $20,566.

According to the arrest report, Deputy Bob Guimont was dispatched to the area of Highway 50 East and Sherman Tuesday around 4 p.m. in reference to a man who had been attempting to open doors to vehicles and homes.

Congress has special tax rules for ministers and clergy. Internal Revenue code section 107 provides “…gross income does not include, in the case of a minister of the gospel, the rental allowance paid to him as part of his compensation, to the extent used by him to rent or provide a home….”

That means a proper housing allowance is not subject to income taxes.

The requirements include: (a) the home or rental allowance must be provided as remuneration for services which are ordinarily the duties of a minister of the gospel

The Carson City Raiders Booster Club's annual fundraiser and auction is this coming Sunday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Carson Lanes Eleventh Frame Lounge, 4600 Snyder Avenue.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to purchase Christmas gifts for 20 homebound seniors in the community (our list of seniors and their modest wish lists are supplied to us by the Meals on Wheels program).

Each year our members shop, wrap, deliver and visit each home bound senior on our list. It's always a heart-warming experience to help make these seniors' holidays more merrier.
