Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest deputy supervisor Genevieve Masters ready for new role
Genevieve Masters has begun her new position as deputy supervisor for the 6.3 million-acre Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, officials announced Wednesday.
Masters arrived from the Apache-Sitgreaves’ National Forest in Arizona, where she served as the ecosystem staff officer since 2009.
“I look forward to getting to know the employees and contributing to a positive and transparent work environment,” said Masters. “I also look forward to working together with employees, communities, and stakeholders to manage the natural resources of the Humboldt-Toiyabe.”
In her most recent role, Masters managed Forest-wide Range, Wildlife, Watershed, Air and National Environmental Policy Act programs. Bill Dunkelberger, Humboldt-Toiyabe National forest supervisor, said Masters diverse management and technical background will serve her well to both the urban and rural settings on the Humboldt-Toiyabe, which is located in Nevada and a small portion of eastern California.
"Genevieve will make a great addition to our leadership team,” said Dunkelberger.
As a recent graduate of the agency’s senior leader program, she served as the Acting Deputy Forest Supervisor on the Pike and San Isabel National Forests and Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands in Colorado last spring.
Master’s Forest Service career began in the mid-1990s as a volunteer. She worked as a seasonal employee, a District Wildlife Biologist, a District Range and Wildlife Staff Officer, a Deputy District Ranger, and a District Ranger prior to her most recent position on the Apache-Sitgreaves’. She has worked in Arizona, New Mexico, Oregon, and now Nevada. Masters has a bachelor’s of science degree in Wildlife Conservation Biology from Arizona State University.
She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and riding her mules and horses on the National Forest.
