CARSON CITY — Get fit for your Winter Sports and Activities. Well Being (Massage and Functional Fitness) hosts its second Winter Sport and Activity Conditioning Program this year. All winter sport and activity enthusiasts in the area are invited to participate.

The three week program began Monday, Nov. 26, 2018. Training days and times include the following:

— Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m.
— Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:30 p.m.

Nevada Health Centers’ Mammovan will be making stops in Carson City, Gardnerville, Silver Springs and Yerington the week of Dec. 3-7, 2018.

DAYTON, Nev. — To celebrate and honor the memory of Don Carbery, who volunteered extensively with many projects to help others throughout Nevada and in places across the U.S., Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey is welcoming a blood drive by Vitalant.

The blood drive takes place at Healthy Communities’ offices at 209 Dayton Valley Road, Dayton, Nevada on Monday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties is hosting a free event where parents can learn more.

Free food and childcare are available during the event on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 6-8 p.m. at the Dayton Community Center, 170 Pike Street in Dayton. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

CARSON CITY — USDA Rural Development State Director Phil Cowee announced Tuesday that residents in 15 of Nevada’s rural and frontier counties will gain access to healthcare through recently approved federal broadband grants.

Start your Thanksgiving Day feeling centered and grounded! Carson City Yoga will offer a Thanksgiving Day Class. All Are Welcome, and this Yoga Class is by donation.

Between working two jobs and caring for her pets, Trudi Gaye doesn’t have much free time. “When I do have time, I want to spend it with my animals,” she said.

A Go Fund Me account has been set up for Colleen Butler, a Carson City mother of three who has a inoperable brain tumor. The tumor touches four different parts of her brain and is also beginning to affect the blood flow to her brain which is causing a long list of symptoms and challenges.

As a lead-up to the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout, a free 5-day Stop Smoking Video Clinic will be hosted by Doctor Arthur Weaver. The five night video series runs Sunday thru Thursday, Nov. 11-15, at 7 p.m. each evening in the Carson City SDA Fellowship Hall – 405 College Parkway, Carson City.

Douglas High School’s athletic department received a pair of orange-clad Automatic External Defibrillator devices from Carson Valley Medical Center Tuesday afternoon.

CVMC primary care provider Jim Gocke, APRN, and CVMC Hospital Foundation board member Nita Schwartz, MD, were on hand to present the devices to Douglas High student athletes and athletic department administration.

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ November breakfast meeting includes a discussion and request for input on the Coalition’s updated Comprehensive Community Prevention Plan, plus a free training on Naloxone and harm reduction. The public meeting is on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center, 2945 Fort Churchill Street.

A training offered by Partnership Carson City on Wednesday could help save lives. The 30-minute lunchtime class will teach participants how to use the nasal spray Naloxone, a drug that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

The Carson City community can save lives in support of local first responders during the Battle of the Badges inspired blood drives on Thursday, Nov. 1 at Carson City Fire Department or Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

CARSON CITY — The Carson Aquatic Facility will be closed from Nov. 3 to Jan. 2 for infrastructure enhancements. An approximately $550,000 investment into the facility’s infrastructure will be made during the two month closure.
