Carson Folk Musicians Find Support on the Web

When the husband-and-wife folk duo Tom and Mary Kay Aufrance went looking for some financial help with publishing their upcoming music CD release, they decided to try a novel approach - auctioning off sponsorships on their CD via ebay.

King St., Carson City. Jo Ann Grace will give a lesson in beginning bachata at 7 p.m., with the social dance at 8-10:30 p.m. Partners are not required. Lesson $7 for HSSDC and any swing dance club members or $10 for nonmembers; dance $7 for members of swing clubs and $10 for nonmembers.

All students will have the opportunity to experience, explore and have fun learning the foundational concepts of acting, character creation, play writing, pantomime, tableaux, theater sports/ improvisation games, movement for the stage, voice for the actor and Alexander Technique in a positive and safe environment. A final group celebration and camp presentation will be held on June 29th for friends and family.

Introduction to Acoustic Music and Singing (For ages 6 and up)

Students will follow the development of genres such as the blues, bluegrass, Celtic music, gospel, jazz, Latin, and traditional folk music through presentations and demonstrations. Participants will be able to try out a variety of acoustic instruments. Songs will be selected by the group for a short recital at the end of the week.
Tuition: $95 ($85 for siblings and BAC Members)
Hours: 9:00 to 11:30 am Mon-Fri

Participants will get a chance to hone their performance skills in front of a small but supportive group of peers, receive feedback, and learn to incorporate it. Participants may also choose to work in small groups to learn harmony and back-up singing techniques. Topics covered: Song interpretation, nerves and ‘stage fright,’ connecting to the song, connecting to the audience, song selection, and stage presence.
Improvisation for Teen Actors (ages 10-15)

"Behind the Scenes" Tours of Natural History

What’s so special about these artifacts is that they are not normally on display and encourages visitors to become familiar with these rare collections. A sneak peak of the new Discovery Lab and other future developments of the natural history exhibit are also included during the tour.

Nevada State Railroad Museum gears up for July 4

Visitors can ride a train pulled by steam locomotive No. 25 Saturday, June 30 through Tuesday, July 3, and photograph significant cars on special outdoor display including the fully restored McKeen motor car. On the Fourth of July, the rare McKeen motor car will operate on the rails offering passengers rides all day.
Mile High Jazz Band presents Jazz & Poetry

Poets names will be drawn from a hat for each reading, followed by a big band tune. The event will be on Tuesday, June 12, 8:00 to 10:00 p.m., at Comma Coffee, outdoors in the courtyard, weather permitting. Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, is across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City. Admission is $5 general and free for age 18 and under.
