Carson City's Mills Park now officially welcomes on-leash dogs inside park

After numerous discussions and the revision of dog codes inside Carson City parks, Mills Park has now officially become a dog-friendly zone — so long as Fido and Spot remain on leash.

The change comes after many years-worth of issues regarding citizens bringing dogs into Mills Park, which, until the recent revision, was unauthorized.

Corley Ranch to host ‘Back Country Music Festival,' bringing some of the biggest names in Americana to Douglas County

Douglas County’s Corley Ranch is a working ranch and farm that has often been the destination for fall festival fun, including everything from pumpkin patches to corn mazes, goat feeding to pig races, and everything in between.

Now, however, a new event will be coming to the ranch in early summer with the Back Country Music Festival on June 2-4.

Local essay contest produces winners with theme 'What The United States Flag Stands For'

More than 65 students 7th–12th Grade from Carson City and surrounding county area schools participated in the Fleet Reserve Association Annual Essay Contest entitled, “What The United States Flag Stands For.” The essays were read and reviewed by a panel of the Branch and Auxiliary Members for content, structure, theme, legibility and personal style. Winners were then chosen from each grade level.

Volkswagen expands Redwood Materials collaboration with consumer battery recycling program

Starting on Earth Day, Volkswagen of America, Inc. and Northern Nevada-based Redwood Materials, Inc. will offer consumers a convenient way to recycle rechargeable devices or lithium-ion batteries. Participating Volkswagen dealerships will offer Redwood bins for easy and safe drop off of rechargeable batteries and consumer devices, including cell phones, laptops, tablets, cordless power tools, electric toothbrushes, wireless headphones, and old vacuum batteries.

Abated Nevada companies will invest $53 million and generate $22M in tax revenue

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development approved four companies that will receive $4,922,336 in tax abatements. In return, these companies are projected to create 85 jobs in the next two years at an average weighted hourly wage of $28.89. That figure is expected to grow to 134 in five years.
