Carson City's Catmandu introduces their Cats of the Week: Garfield and Winnie

If you agree that two cats are better than one, come meet Garfield and Winnie, a pair of bonded siblings. This brother and sister duo is new to Catmandu, and they are a little overwhelmed by the 80 other cats, the activity, and the unfamiliar faces of the staff and volunteers.

When Larry Ellison, the founder of Oracle Corp., spent $35.8 million in 2017 to buy the Cal Neva Lodge in bankruptcy court, many hoped he'd bring his Midas touch to Lake Tahoe and the aging resort.
Now six years later, the almost 100-year-old resort once owned by Frank Sinatra has been sold again, this time to McWhinney, a leading real estate investment, development, and management firm out of Colorado.

As Minden siren persists, lawmakers hope to close loopholes in ‘sundown siren’ law

Even though lawmakers in 2021 unanimously passed AB88, a bill sponsored by Assemblyman Howard Watts (D-Las Vegas) that prohibited “sundown sirens,” or sounds citywide to alert people of color to leave town by a certain time, the town of Minden still sounds a siren at 5 p.m.
The city says the sound honors first responders despite concerns about the racist connotations brought up by Washoe tribal members during the hearing Wednesday for SB391, which seeks to close a loophole in the previous bill that allowed the practice to continue.
Carson City Rotarians help bring safe drinking water access to Panama

Providing safe drinking water to communities around the globe is a high priority for Rotary International. The Rotary Club of Carson City is helping fulfill that goal with a project in Panama.
Local Rotarian John Copoulos just returned from the project site in Sofre, Panama where residents and Rotarians celebrated the project’s completion.

After four years at the helm of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, I have decided to "hang up my spurs" and retire as the Chamber's Executive Director. I started at the Chamber in March 2019 after John Cassinelli saw me riding my ATV around the Dayton Ranchos and asked me if I wanted a part-time job. Ha! Cassinelli was probably thinking we better get her something to do or there could be trouble!
