Carson City's Kings Canyon trailhead improvements to feature more parking, amenities

The Kings Canyon Road and Trailhead Project, located west of Carson City, will make improvements to Kings Canyon Road, as well as construct a new 25 stall parking area at the existing trailhead. Other amenities will include installation of a vault toilet, ADA parking stall and OHV/equestrian trailer parking. Construction is anticipated to begin in mid-July and likely continue through October.

Northern Nevada landscapes, gardens: Stop the nasty, noxious yellow starthistle from spreading

I have been seeing a nasty noxious (that means it’s against the law) weed in bloom recently, yellow starthistle. It is a 2- to 4-foot-tall gray-green plant covered in whitish hairs with wicked ½- to 1-inch spines at the base of each yellow flower.

Air quality continues to worsen Sunday morning, with an "unhealthy" range in the air quality index throughout Carson Valley in Douglas County and moving into the Carson City area, according to airnow.gov.

Carson City area weather: Threat of thunderstorms, dry lightning prompt Red Flag warning

UPDATE: The threat of dry lightning from thunderstorms expected to move into the Carson City region and Sierra Front has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning beginning at 8 p.m. tonight and lasting through 11 a.m. Monday.

Author Monica Marcinko is presenting her children’s book, “I Want to be an Elf,” at the bookstore from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. while dressed as an elf and spreading early holiday cheer.

Non-injury crash blocking traffic on Spooner near Golf Club Drive

At 7:40 p.m. Saturday night, a non-injury crash was reported in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 50 near Spooner Junction close to Golf Club Drive.

According to the reporting party, the vehicle is blocking traffic and is stopped in a blind spot.
