Pathfinder Kit Carson left mark on much of Nevada

There’s Carson City, the Carson Valley, the Carson Pass and the Carson River. He also merits not just a mountain but the entire Carson Range, west of Reno and Carson City.
Man beaten, shots fired late Saturday night in Carson City

No one was injured by gunfire but a man was taken to the hospital after being assaulted, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Darrin Sloan. One shot went into the Bank of America building.

Carson City braces for high winds expected through Sunday morning
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 02/15/2014 - 1:07pmUPDATE: The southbound lane of I-580 through Washoe Valley was blocked this afternoon after a semi-truck overturned. Traffic is being diverted to Highway 395A at Bower's interchange, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation. Motorists are to take Highway 395A to the far south end of Washoe Valley and return to I-580 at Lake View Hill on ramp. The road should be clear by around 5 p.m.

High winds have moved into Carson City this afternoon with reports of downed lines, toppled trees and flying debris.

Pinch-hitter Paul Martinez tied the game with a run-scoring single in the eighth inning, and the Tigers won it when Jeremy Alderman’s first pitch on an attempted intentional walk with runners on third and second bases sailed to the backstop.
Wildcats show resilience against tough Salt Lake Bruins; games resume today
Submitted by editor on Sat, 02/15/2014 - 10:30amThe Western Nevada College Wildcats softball team faced the Bruins of Salt Lake Community College, Friday, Feb. 14 for a home opening doubleheader at Edmonds Sports Complex, Carson City.
The Wildcats came into the series 0-4 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference after losses to College of Southern Nevada last week. They managed eight hits in the first game, but lost 5-14 in five innings. In the second game the Wildcats fought hard, but came up short despite 12 hits. They fell 5-7. Pitchers Lindsay Ashbaugh and Carlee Beck took the losses for WNC.
Carson City driver injured in crash with school bus
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 02/14/2014 - 4:55pmThe driver of a car collided with the rear end of school bus late Friday morning near the intersection of Highway 50 East and Lompa Lane. The bus didn't have any children inside.
The driver of the car was taken by ambulance to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Dan Lopez. She was issued a citation for the crash. The driver of the bus was not injured.
Brewery Arts Center develops survey, asks for feedback to plan upcoming season

The survey is only 22 questions and accessible through the live link here and will remain live until the end of February.
Man who posed as Navy Seal, bilked Carson City residents out of money, arrested

Dicken claimed to be the most decorated Navy SEAL in history, pretending to have served tours in Vietnam and Grenada.
Greater Nevada Credit Union accepting scholarship applications
