Heavenly protests Forest Service plan for Tahoe

Heavenly Mountain Resort is protesting portions of the U.S. Forest Service’s 15-year land management plan for Lake Tahoe.

In a letter sent to Forest Service chief Thomas Tidwell, Heavenly claims a plan to restrict future ski-resort development to 200 acres would apply collectively to all four ski resorts in the Tahoe Basin.

That darn 1/8th cent tax hike, again

In 2012 the people of Carson City voted DOWN the ballot initiative CC #1 which called for a 1/8th cent hike in the sales tax, to be used for a new library and other development downtown, including the reduction of traffic on Carson Street from 4 to 2 lanes so as to make room for wider, more pedestrian friendly sidewalks or additional street parking or both.

4th Annual Carson High School Safe & Sober 5k Run/Walk a Huge Success

Yesterday was a great success for the 4th annual Carson High School Safe & Sober 5k Run/Walk. We had a great turn-out with 115 sign-ups and 104 participants. We would like to thank our wonderful sponsors and many volunteers who made this day a complete success – without all of you, this event would not happen! The weather was outstanding, especially if you were running with the wind at your back!

Lyon County gang unit, Carson City SET team arrest four, recover 60 stolen weapons

UPDATE: Carson City and Lyon County authorities arrested four people Friday on felony and misdemeanor charges related to stolen weapons, a vehicle and narcotics.

The Lyon County Gang Unit and Carson City SET Team had information in regards to a parole violator in the Lyon County area, who was in possession of stolen weapons. Both teams worked together to locate and apprehend the suspect, said Lt. Shawn Clanton.

College baseball: WNC Wildcats win third straight series

Western Nevada College clinched its third consecutive road baseball series victory by overtaking Riverside City College with a big seventh inning on Saturday in Riverside, Calif.

Spenser Dorsey’s two-run single highlighted a six-run seventh inning and Tony Roque knocked in three runs on two hits as 14th-ranked WNC defeated the Tigers 8-2.

By taking two of the three nonconference games from the Tigers, the Wildcats’ series victory follows triumphs at 10th-ranked Cochise and Pima.
