New laws increasing criminal penalties for fentanyl trafficking and stealing catalytic converters are part of the more than 100 bills passed earlier this year that took effect in whole or in part on Sunday.

That subset of the roughly 540 bills signed by Gov. Joe Lombardo after this year’s 120-day legislative session also includes stronger restrictions on pet restraints and changes intended to improve health care for those incarcerated in the state’s prisons.

Miller Counseling is partnering with Douglas Center for Hope and Healing to offer grief support groups to Carson City and the surrounding rural communities Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m.

The Miller Counseling and Wellness Center is located at 104 W. Telegraph St. in Carson City.

The Center for Hope and Healing has been providing grief support to Douglas County for the last 10 years. The goal of building this partnership is to make the free support groups available and easier to access to more members of the Northern Nevada community.
