Carson City deputies make arrests for assault with a deadly weapon, vehicle reported stolen

A 27-year-old woman was arrested Saturday for suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor harassment, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Veronica Salanavell of Carson City was taken into custody at 10:56 a.m. following an investigation. According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to a call for an assault with a deadly weapon at a Fairview Drive address.

The suspect and victim had left the scene by the time law enforcement arrived. A deputy located the suspect, Salanavell, who had been identified by a witness, as she was walking south on Carson and Stewart streets. The deputy removed a knife from the woman's right pocket, according to the report.

Deputies made contact with the victim who said the woman charged at him with a knife after he said he told her he was going to call the police on her after finding her inside a Goodwill donation box. A witness told deputies that they saw the woman with a knife chasing the man who was on a bicycle, saying that she was going to kill him, the report states.

Based on the victim and witness statements and the possession of the knife, Salanavell was arrested for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and harassment. Bail: $20,000.

— A 52-year-old woman was arrested Saturday for suspicion of possession of stolen property, embezzlement of an automobile and drug possession, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Tamara Lynn Rhiner was taken into custody at 2:03 p.m. following an investigation. She was also booked for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the booking report, a Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team deputy observed a white Jeep Gladiator make abrupt turns as he was following it. The deputy ran the California plate on the vehicle, which came back as stolen.

The vehicle sped away from the deputy onto Long Street. As the deputy was about to activate his emergency lights, the Jeep made a quick left into a driveway on East Long Street.

The deputy activated their emergency lights and the vehicle drove through the parking lot until it finally stopped at the southern entrance. The deputy began a high-risk felony stop on the Jeep. As the deputy was getting out of the vehicle, a woman identified as Tamara Rhiner, exited the driver door and looked at the officer. The deputy detained the woman and placed her in handcuffs, the report states.

Dispatch contacted the victim, Enterprise Rental Company. Enterprise wanted the vehicle towed so it could be picked up at a later date.

Rhiner was read her Miranda warning and agreed to speak. She said she crashed her vehicle in Washoe County in July and said her insurance agent had the Jeep set up for her to pick up at Enterprise in July. She told the officer that she didn't know she had to return the vehicle because her insurance agent was supposed to extend her agreement, the report states.

Further investigation found the woman's insurance paid for the Jeep through August 17. Enterprise contacted the woman and told her that the insurance company stopped the payment for the Jeep. She told Enterprise that she would pay on the vehicle. Enterprise received an additional $200 from the woman and lost contact with her on August 26, the report states.

Enterprise said the woman's card was declined while trying to charge her for the vehicle. Enterprise attempted to make contact with the woman multiple times but she did not answer. Enterprise entered the vehicle as stolen.

A detective and the SET deputy performed an inventory search of the vehicle. Inside there was a zip bag in the center console with methamphetamine residue, the report states.

Rhiner gave CCSO deputies consent to search her phone to look at her phone log. A detective advised that there were more than one hundred missed calls, indicating that Rhiner never contacted Enterprise about the Jeep. She was arrested for suspicion of embezzlement of an auto vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $25,000.

— A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of DUI, driving with a revoked Nevada driver's license and driving with expired registration.

According to the CCSO booking report, a deputy made contact with a witness who observed the man drive into a parking lot, run over a curb and appeared to be intoxicated as he attempted to get propane.

A deputy made contact with the driver who had slurred speech, slow response and had an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. The officer asked if he had been drinking that day. He said he did. He was asked how long ago it was, and the man replied two hours ago. The officer asked the man if he felt he was OK to drive and he said no, the report states.

The officer asked if he had driven the vehicle to the location where they were at. He said he did. The officer asked if he would be willing to do standardized field sobriety tests. The man said he would.

The man showed signs of impairment on the tests. He refused a preliminary breath test. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI where a warrant was obtained for a blood draw. Bail: $1,882.

According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to a crash and learned the suspect vehicle driver was possibly impaired and could barely stand.

The crash happened on East Telegraph Street, where officers learned the suspect allegedly backed into the reporting party causing minor damage. The suspect attempted to leave East Telegraph but was blocked by the victim at Robinson and North Carson Street, the report states.

The deputy observed a bystander hold the man so he would not fall down. The deputy made contact with the suspect driver, who was smoking a cigarette. The officer instructed the man to walk over to the patrol unit. The officer observed the man was unsteady on his walk to the patrol unit, the report states.

The officer could smell an odor of alcohol coming from the man's person. The officer learned the man's California driver's license was suspended or revoked. Due to the man's license being issued out of California, the officer could not clarify the reason for the suspicion or revocation, the report states.
