State Senator Mark Amodei throws in the towel on U.S. Senate race
Saying he didn’t have enough money, and probably wouldn’t have enough money, to mount an effective campaign, State Senator Mark Amodei, R-Capital District, today announced he’s not going to run for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate, the seat held by Democratic Senator Harry Reid.
Amodei said the Republican race for the nomination was already too crowded and that some of the candidates have “critical funding mass” that would be hard to overcome. Amodei is termed out in the State Senate.
Amodei added that he will likely run for office in the future, but for now he wants to concentrate on the difficult task in front of him; the special legislative session which faces a daunting task of coping with the worst state funding shortfall in the history of the state of Nevada. Amodei, who voted against tax increases passed by the last legislature, said again that the best thing to do is to cut the budget and not raise taxes.
