We’ve got a wonderful Wednesday ahead. Learn about your true colors at the Chamber of Commerce’s Soup’s On luncheon. Get your boogie on at Carson Lanes: country dance lessons are every Tuesday and Wednesday in their Eleventh Frame Lounge. It’s a jazzy night at Living the Good Life or rockin with Ev Musselman at the Max Casino. The upcoming Citywide Film Competition is the focus of this month’s Wired Wednesday meeting. If you have interest in digital arts and filmmaking, then you are welcome to join in the fun.

Like many of you, I have a weather app on my phone. It says to expect some snow this morning, so I’m hoping it’s a liar. Make Monday easy on yourself and let the Pizza Factory take care of dinner. A portion of today’s proceeds will be donated to Paul Guzetta, a 36 year old local man who is battling an infection in intensive care. Lending a hand to his wife and kids during this tough time is as easy as ordering a pizza (or one of their yummy salads or pasta.) Once you have a full, happy belly, check out karaoke at the Fox Brewpub or swing dance night at El Charro Avita.

Smack dab in the middle of the week, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing going on. Sierra Nevada Forums presents something new to think about every month: for free, and featuring prominent experts on the topic. Join them tonight for a discussion on ‘Water is for fighting, Whiskey is for drinking.’ Let Ev Musselman sing you a song at the Max Casino or enjoy something jazzy at Living the Good Life. Cupcake Wars at the Carson Library are a good way for the teen on spring break to try something different.

The first day of spring is here, and while it may not mean the end of the snow, it is a harbinger of longer days ahead. Carson kids and the students of Western Nevada College have a reason to celebrate – spring break is here. The State Legislature has an exhibit on display celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Women in the Military, in addition to several works of art by Nevadans, so make a special trip to check it out. The High Sierra Swing Dance Club meets every Monday at El Charro Avita for an evening of dancing and learning something new.

First known as the Ides of March, today is also ‘Veteran’s Day’ at the State Legislature. Brian Sandoval presides over a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at 9 a.m., and even more is in store at the Legislature, including a BBQ. It’s also Nevada Moves Day, which means you’ll see a lot of school age walkers and bicyclists on the sidewalks. Reward your family with a movie at the Library tonight: The BFG is fun for all ages. Learn more about our little lake to the north with a presentation at the Washoe Lake State Park Ranger Office.

Oh, this morning is going to hurt. Adjusting to Daylight Savings Time is always a little rough, and this Monday gets going one hour earlier than usual. The Father-Daughter Dance at Carson High is on March 31, but don’t wait until the last moment for tickets. Grab them in the High School Office between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Grab some friends and head to Carson Cigar Co. for Game Night: Cards Against Humanities, Apples to Apples, and Jenga are just a few of the offerings – it changes every week.

Sunday night's snow flurries give way to what should be a sunshiny week. The annual Fathers-Daughters Dance at Carson High School isn’t until March 31, but tickets go on sale today. Don’t wait until the last moment to guarantee your spot at this memorable event. Jitterbug the night away with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club; you’ll find an intermediate swing lesson and open dance at El Charro Avita. The Fox Brewpub comes to the Monday blues rescue with karaoke hosted by J and M Productions.

Please drive safe when it’s slick out. ‘Our Story, Inc.’ takes you on a tour of Black History in Northern Nevada in the foyer of the Legislature; they’ll be on hand at the Carson Library this evening for a special Black History Month Celebration. Get a jump on spring cleaning and lend a hand to the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program. You’ll find their clothing drive at Red’s Old 395 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Show off your skills at Retro Replay if you fancy yourself a Smash Bros.

The new year keeps rolling along, and tonight we’ll hear from Mayor Bob Crowell what we can expect in the upcoming months. The State of the City address, "Carson City - A Community Working Together," will be presented in the Community Center’s Bob Boldrick Theater and is open to all. One thing we can expect is an influx of legislative staff, lobbyists, and lawmakers flooding Carson City. The next Legislative session begins in one week, so expect a little more traffic on the roads and our new downtown crosswalks to get a lot more use.

It’s a winter wonderland in our neck of the woods, and probably a little messy to drive in. Thankfully, the Carson City and Douglas County School Districts have given you an extra two hours to get the kids to school. It’s not really expected to get above freezing, so be extra careful on what will likely be icy roads. This is the last scheduled week of the Arlington Square Ice Rink, so, if the weather allows, try to get in one last trip. Be safe out there, Carson City, spring is just around the corner.

Several people are enjoying yet another three-day weekend. This time it’s to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?” One way to observe the MLK Day of Service is to participate in the Clothing and Food Drive for homeless veterans. Drop-off locations are at FISH on East Long Street and the RSVP office on Northgate. The Healthy Community Coalition’s monthly cooking class and demo features Mediterranean food and is open to all comers. You’ll find the ice rink open at 10 a.m.

Well, 2017 blew in with a vengeance and brought the snow along with it. It’s a very chilly start to the new year, but at least the wind has died down. I’ll leave predictions of accumulation up to the weather gurus, but if you don’t need to drive in the icy conditions, stay safe and cozy at home. Christmas tree recycling begins today in Carson City. Leave your tree, sans decorations and cut into three foot sections, out by your curb on your regular trash day. Be safe out there, stay warm, and good luck with all your resolutions.

Get over the mid-week hump with a visit to one of Carson City’s art exhibits. There’s nothing like a little beauty to make your day. Capital City Arts Initiative has a display at the court house, inside the Sierra Room at the Community Center, and inside the BRIC building by City Hall. Check out the exhibit at the Nevada Arts Council and the Nevada Artist Association’s featured artist inside the Carson Visitor Center. Carson City is awash with art, so go see what is making our valley beautiful.

It’s winter break for all the schoolchildren, and thankfully the Arlington Square Ice Rink opens every day at 10 a.m. A few hours of ice skating is sure to wear them out. The Carson City Library is sponsoring a winter read-a-thon for those who would rather stay bundled up warm and cozy. Dance away those holiday calories at High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s weekly ‘night out’ get together at El Charro Avita. The Firkin and Fox has all-ages karaoke if you’re ready to sing something that isn’t a Christmas Carol.
