Join us in celebrating Veterans Day 2020. Due to most Veterans Day parades and other celebrations being cancelled this November because of COVID-19, Nevada Department of Veterans Services produced a video with support from the Nevada veterans and community leaders across the state highlighting what Veterans Day means to them, along with the following anniversaries:

— The 75th anniversary of the end of WWII;
— The 70th anniversary of the outbreak of Korean War;
— The 67th anniversary of the alliance between U.S.A. and the Republic of Korea; and
— The 30th Anniversary of the outbreak of the 1st Gulf War.

My father was of the Model T Generation, born the year the Titanic went down, 1912. His was a sober generation, living through the flu pandemic of 1918, Prohibition, the Great Depression and WWII. If that won't sober up a generation what will?

Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada and Girl Scouts of the USA are excited to announce the launch of their Girl Scouts at Home programming. Girl Scouts at Home offers all girls — whether they are registered Girl Scouts or not — access to Girl Scout activities.

The year is nearly over and winter is upon us; avoid an early onset of cabin fever, and stretch your legs by coming out to the Wungnema House for the last open house of 2019 on Sunday, Dec. 29 and learn about some of unique and enduring contributions a family of Native Americans made to our area. Access to the Wungnema House is off Saliman Road, opposite Carson High School.

Heading into the weekend, post-Christmas holiday activities continue around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Christmas Through the Years presentation at the Carson Valley Community Theater, Open Mic Night at A to Zen Gift Shop, musicians Lauren Kepler and Dan Cypher at Bella Vita Bistro, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club and much more!

November is National Native American Heritage Month; observe the month by learning about some unique and enduring contributions a family of Native Americans made to our area. As the month winds down, and the good weather still holds, come out and visit the historic Wungnema House on the east side of Mills Park on Sunday, November 24th during the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation’s monthly open house.

Stop by the east side of Mills Park today, Sunday, September 29th and visit the historic Wungnema House for the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation’s monthly open house, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. There is no admission fee for the open house, and all are welcome.

Carson City is so full of amazing history that sometimes it boggles the mind. As we have always asserted, the true history of Nevada was made right here in Carson City and from time-to-time, we are reminded of our rich heritage.

One of those reminders will be evident once again on Thursday, Sept. 12 to commemorate the Centennial Celebration of the arrival of then Lt. Colonel Dwight D. Eisenhower who joined the convoy to test the shape of America’s roads and military vehicles as part of the first U.S. Army Transcontinental Motor Convoy that started in Washington, D.C. and ended in San Francisco.

The aircraft known as "Sentimental Journey," tail number N9323Z, was at the Minden-Tahoe Airport from Sept. 3 through Sept. 8. During this time the public was able to crawl though the aircraft, to see what it was like to be in a real WWII bomber, and was also able to purchase tickets for rides in various locations within the plane. Today features a morning bike ride, outdoor journaling and adventuring at Riverview Park, a woman's veteran support group meeting at Mills Park, the last day of the Virginia City Rodeo and Fiesta del Charro, the KVNC outdoor concert at its Minnesota street studio and the finale of the 2019 Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival. National Aviation Day was celebrated Monday, August 19. President Franklin D Roosevelt established this United States national observation in 1939. The date is the anniversary of Orville Wright’s birthday. Since 1903 when Orville and Wilbur Wright first achieved piloted, controlled, sustained, heavier-than-air flight the world has changes significantly. We are all touched by aviation in one way or another. Everything from people to packages are transported via airplanes.

Good day Carson City and welcome to Sunday, July 28, 2019. It's the last day of this year's Carson City Fair at Fuji Park. Be sure to stop by and check out the farm animals, tractors and demonstrations. Also today is a tour of the Wungnema House, train rides, an author event in Silver City, a veterans support gathering for women at Mills Park and more.

The first time I rode in a small plane was at the Carson City Airport Open house. I was probably 5, my brother probably 8, along with our dad who took us to geek out over the WWII planes and tanks.

The pilot offered us a ride, and we climbed aboard a small orange-and-white plane with a bench seat in the back and two seats in the front. My dad sat beside the pilot, my brother and I strapped in the back.

About thirty seconds after take-off, my brother and I noticed something horrific to our child-minds: in the back of the cockpit, buzzing around beside us, was a bee.

The Carson City Airport held it's annual Open House today, offering static displays of historic and modern aircraft, WWII vehicles, a hanger filled with fun, educational activities for kids and kids-at-heart, a chicken wing cook-off, vendors and more.

Pre-selected military veterans and seniors will enjoy the thrill of a Dream Flight in a 1944 Stearman biplane, the same aircraft used to train military aviators during World War II. The flights are courtesy of Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation (AADF), a Carson City-based nonprofit that honors U.S. military veterans nationwide with free Dream Flights. AADF has given more than 3,700 Dream Flights nationwide since 2011.
